Director Zack Snyder to Helm Netflix Zombie Thriller 'Army of the Dead'

Former Justice League Director Zack Snyder takes on a new Netflix zombie project, titled Army of the Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Snyder, who stepped away from the Justice League project due to a family tragedy, makes his way back to the directorial scene with a zombie horror thriller for Netflix. He plans to work with his partner and wife Deborah Snyder in their newly re-branded production company Stone Quarry. Wesley Coller is also producing.

Snyder came up with the project’s story. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword screenwriter Joby Harold penned the script. The story is set in Las Vegas where a zombie outbreak occurs. A group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble—to pull off a post-apocalyptic heist in a quarantined zone.

Snyder expresses great gratitude towards Netflix, saying that they’re “letting him loose” on the project. “There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” Snyder said in an interview. He goes on promising that it will be “the most kickass, self-aware…balls-to-the-wall zombie freak show” people will ever see. The project also reunites him with Netflix’s movie head Scott Stuber, the executive who him his first big-screen shot on the Universal release.

Snyder is no stranger to zombie films. His debut film was Universal Picture’s zombie thriller Dawn of the Dead, which earned more than 102 million in the Box Office. Army of the Dead marks his return to the genre.
