Popular YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie on his channel, recently went under fire for dropping the N-word in a video that quickly went viral. The clip shows Kjellberg livestreaming the game Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds on the Let’s Play segment of his channel. He becomes upset with another player and curses: “what a f-ing n-word, jeez, oh my god, what the f-? What a f-ing asshole.”
Kjellberg immediately received backlash for his racist language. Game developer Sean Vanaman, co-founder of Campo Santo and creator of Firewarch, was especially vocal in his criticisms against the YouTube star. He called Kjellberg, among other things, “a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry.” However, other people defended Kjellberg, who they said made a mistake while in the heat of the moment.

PewDiePie Releases ‘My Response’
Kjellberg recently reacted to the negative backlash with a video called “My Response.” In the video, seen below, Kjellberg apologizes for his immature language. He explained that he had said the worst thing he could think of in the heat of the moment. However, he also said that he had no excuses and was disappointed in himself. Kjellberg even went so far as to call himself an idiot and apologized for hurting or offending anyone. He also promised to serve as a better role model for the people who look up to him.
Previously in February, Kjellberg found himself at the center of another racial controversy. Kjellberg posted several videos with anti-Semitic or Nazi-related images taken from the site Fiverr. While Kjellberg explained that he meant for the videos to be satirical, his actions drew backlash from the Jewish community. Disney and Google even ended their business relationships with the YouTuber over his actions.
