It’s going to be a while before The Boys comes back to Amazon Prime Video, but in the meantime, we have another superhero property that’s geared to a more feminine audience this time around.
Based on the best-selling novel by Naomi Alderman, The Power is set to release by the end of March, and we have a new trailer showcasing a shift in the world order where young women earn electrical superpowers. Check this out:
Here’s the official description for the show:
The Power, is an emotionally-driven global thriller, based on Naomi Alderman’s international award-winning novel. The world of The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. The Power follows a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.
While there are clear metaphors here for puberty and privilege, the show is actually going to be extensive when it comes to the different women reacting differently when they receive their powers. Though there are some that look to be using their powers for good, there are also some that use it to gain power over others.
Of course, let’s not forget the ‘powerless’ who are desperately trying to control the emergence of these young women with supernatural abilities. It’s going to be interesting to see all the real-world inspiration for the story—kind of like what the do on The Boys.
The Power premieres on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.
