Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins wasn’t Fired; She Quit

A lot of DC fans were shocked when it was said that Patty Jenkins was walking away from Wonder Woman 3, and while some have been blaming new DC head James Gunn, the fault could be very much with WB CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

According to the Wrap, Jenkins had finished the script for Wonder Woman 3, but it was rejected by Abdy and De Luca. When they asked her to try a different direction, Jenkins apparently walked off the project, but not without sending them an e-mail that said that ‘they were wrong, that they didn’t understand her, didn’t understand the character, didn’t understand character arcs and didn’t understand what Jenkins was trying to do.”

To add some more salt on the wound, Jenkins was said to have ended her e-mail with the Wikipedia definition of a ‘Character Arc’.

WB was said to have extended an olive branch and said that Jenkins was welcome to come back and pitch something else for the character, but she was very adamant in the story that she wanted to tell, and if they weren’t having it, so was Jenkins.

Admittedly, fans have been having kind of a mixed reaction with Jenkins’ exit. Though she did deliver a wonderful first film, a lot of fans wonder what happened with the sequel WW84 which seemed to have lost all its grounded realism for a more cartoonish tone.

No doubt, Jenkins does seem very passionate about the character, and it’s going to be tough to find someone else to direct the third film besides her. You think they’ve already called Elizabeth Banks to come up with a pitch? How about Ava DuVernay?
