Amazon Prime Video has pretty much got the superhero formula down pat with the success of The Boys, but they have one more super-powered series that’s a bit more on the feminine side.
Watch the first teaser for The Power:
Here’s the official description for the series:
The Power, is an emotionally-driven global thriller, based on Naomi Alderman’s international award-winning novel. The world of The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. The Power follows a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.
The original book from Naomi Alderman had come out back in 2016, and had received a lot of positive reviews. I guess it’s worth noting that Alderman’s mentor is Margaret Atwood, who was best known for her feminist sci-fi novel The Handmaid’s Tale.
Though The Boys is a series that likes to poke fun at the concept of comic book heroes and how they would abuse their power, The Power is more focused on the exploration of gender roles, what with women becoming the new dominant sex after discovering they have a dangerous new ability.
I’m very eager to watch Alderman’s premise come to life with the show, and it should keep superhero fans satiated while they wait for the next season of The Boys.
The Power premieres on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.
