Probably one of the best shows on HBO Max right now is Winning Time, which chronicles the rise of the Lakers dynasty and the NBA. While the series is still in the middle of its first season, it looks like HBO is already ready for more.
In an official announcement, Winning Time has been renewed for a second season:

We don’t really know where the current season is going to end, but we’ll likely be seeing more of Magic Johnson and his rivalry with the Boston Celtics’ Larry Bird. No doubt we would also be seeing some other celebrity/athlete cameos as we watch the Lakers play their way to the top.
While basketball is at the very center of the show, the series actually takes very careful steps when it comes to portraying race relations and the social issues of that time. We’ve seen some of the challenges that Johnson had to face himself, but the last episode really put the spotlight on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his experience as a black Muslim in America.
I haven’t even mentioned the unique look of the series that tries to imagine if the show was shot with film back in the 70s. It’s surreal how they manage to make the show look like a documentary in some places.
WINNING TIME: THE RISE OF THE LAKERS DYNASTY is a fast-break series about the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties — a team that defined an era, both on and off the court.
