The end of the reboot might not be the only ending that Will & Grace fans would be facing right now as even its stars might be facing a fallout. Debra Messing and Megan Mullally have unfollowed each other on Instagram, with each of them leaving cryptic messages on their profiles and stories—further spurring the feud rumors between the two.
Fans began to notice something amiss a few weeks prior on one of Messing’s posts. Messing, who plays Grace Adler, failed to tag Mullally on a post calling for fans to vote for Will & Grace for the Emmys while other cast and crew members were tagged. More recently, Mullally, who plays Grace’s assistant Karen Walker, posted a cryptic message on her Instagram story, saying, “One of the best feelings is finally losing your attachment to somebody who isn’t good for you!” She also posted another message on her profile that says “Don’t ask people for directions if they’ve never been where you’re going!”
On another note, fans have also noticed that co-stars Sean Hayes and Erik McCormack still follow both women. And both Messing and Mullaly still follow them back, further centralizing the rumors to only the two. However, speculations also arose that this feud might have contributed to the reboot’s definite ending.
Will & Grace’s Second Ending
Despite healthy ratings, Will & Grace will be saying farewell after the third season of its reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision was made by the cast and creators themselves.
“We think of the Will & Grace reboot episodes the way Karen Walker thinks of martinis — 51 is not enough, 53 is too many. That is why, after consulting with the cast, we all have decided this will be the final season of Will & Grace,” creators Max Mutchnik, David Cohan, and Jimmy Burrows said. “In 2016, Bob Greenblatt came to us with the idea of doing a 10-episode reboot of Will & Grace. They say you can’t go home again, but we did. And now, three seasons and 52 episodes later, we’re even more proud of something we never thought we’d get a chance to do again. We have had a once-in-a-lifetime experience twice. And for that, we owe a double debt of gratitude to NBC, this show’s supportive and caring home since day one.”
Will & Grace’s third and final season will premiere on NBC in 2020. It will consist of 18 episodes, and is joining other NBC shows The Good Place and Blindspot that are ending in the 2019-2020 broadcast season.
