Whiskey Cavalier lives in a world where trust is a grey area. Undeniably, however, it is something that Team Whiskey possesses. After having a holiday-like time in Spain, the team receives the strangest of tasks in the least expected day. While the backbone of the group celebrates the Supplemental Holiday for Espionage Professionals, their trio heads to France to escort a prison transport. However, the thought to be babysitting gig turns sour when the trio finds out who they are accompanying.
On Wednesday night’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Will Chase (Scott Foley) Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan), and Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams) head to France to escort a high-level prisoner. The prisoner turns out to be no other than Will’s old boss and ex-FBI Director Alex Ollerman (Dylan Walsh). Meanwhile, Jai Datta (Vir Das) tries to go beyond his issues with interpersonal relationships as Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins) surprises everyone with his actions.
The Great Escape
Will, Frankie, and Edgar stare in disbelief as the correctional officers unmask the prisoner. Ollerman has a smirk on his face as if he knew how exactly the events would occur. Suspiciously, Ollerman was right. An ambush on their convoy happens, eliminating all their escorts. Will, Frankie, and Edgar manage to retake the van and bring Ollerman with them. Now, the orders from above are to interrogate Ollerman in their headquarters.
Even as he sat in the heart of the enemy territory, Ollerman maintained his smug aura. He utilizes psychological warfare against the team, spilling secrets about their profiles as they listened. Ollerman’s tactics almost work. Outside the interrogation room, Team Whiskey started arguing with each other. Since Susan Sampson (Ana Ortiz) profiled each of them, she wrote all the things that Ollerman blurts out.
Ollerman’s endgame seems to be to have the team fall apart, just as he is the reason for the team’s formation. With Susan abducted by Todd (David Fynn) who works for Ollerman, Frankie decided that they should pretend to play along with Ollerman’s game. As they fulfilled Ollerman’s list of demands, Frankie defects to Ollerman. She goes as far to prove her loyalty by shooting Will twice.
Meanwhile, Ray and Jai handle Susan’s rescue. This time, Will made it clear that he trusted Ray and his ability to improvise. Because of this, Ray barges into the room with seemingly no plan in mind, but whatever Ray did works. Ray tricks Todd and the goons into thinking that he works for Ollerman too before his incredible way of taking them all out. Todd stood there, pointing a gun at Susan’s head. Once again, Ray fools Todd into looking at him, giving Jai a clean shot without endangering Susan.
Ollerman, on the other hand, thought that he could get away with trying to kill Frankie. Will reaches them in time to stop Ollerman from doing so. While Frankie did not agree with how Will is bartering her life for Ollerman’s, she has little choice. Ollerman does escape but not with what he thinks he has. Instead of the data that contained his terrorist organization’s funds, Will replaced the chip in Ollerman’s ring with one that has photos of him on vacation.
Lovebirds
Edgar could not get his mind off of Tina Marek’s (Marika Dominczyk) mission. They have started dating, and their setup is something new to Edgar. Because of this, his worries get the best of him as he sent an awkward voicemail to Tina, clearly uncomfortable with the idea of her seducing a different man for work purposes. When their missions are finally over, they have the chance to talk about what happened. Tina found Edgar’s message sweet, and she even gave him a gift to try to make him feel better. In return, Edgar promises to adjust to the nature of their relationship.
Ray and Jai
Ray’s outburst when he found out that Ollerman is in the building left him in a fit of rage. Team Whiskey then decides to have Jai handle calming him down. Not only would that help Jai improve his social skills, but it would also keep Ray from doing something dangerous. Their chance to get back at Ollerman and his goons come when Will puts Ray in charge of saving Susan. After what they did, they seem to make a good partnership. When the mission ends, Edgar approaches Jai with his gift for him while Will gives Ray a pat on his shoulder. A lot of things are improving for Team Whiskey’s cunning men. Susan happily watched as the people she works with now change from her initial assessments.
‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 8 ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’ Final Verdict
The sequence where Ray took out the goons single-handedly was both excellently shot and well choreographed. A change in his cheery, often mistreated character is something that he deserved. In time, Will would probably forgive him and perhaps even become friends with him again. Jai’s attempts at socializing are adorable. He best portrays how a socially awkward person would behave in a social gathering, let alone a Spy Christmas Party. Still, Ollerman’s escape poses a new threat to the team. He can be assumed to be both the season’s first and last enemy.
Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, April 24th with ‘Hearts & Minds’ at 10/9c on ABC.
