Published 6 years ago
Whiskey Cavalier knows that his partner’s codename is Fiery Tribune, but he does not know why. Despite thwarting a crimelord’s attempted escape; bringing sensitive information, the team now faces disbandment. Along the way, each member starts to learn each other’s quirks, but not in the best of ways. In the face of a dangerous weapon of mass destruction, the team somehow finds ways to work through their differences and end the day with a toast.
In this week’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Agent Will Chase (Scott Foley) tries to know Agent Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) on a personal level. Meanwhile, tech gurus Jai Datta (Vir Das) and Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams) clash. Caught in the middle of the pairings, profiler Susan Samson (Ana Ortiz) balances things out for the team.
Fascia Rossa
This time around, the team’s mission is to stop Luca Crudele (Alberto Basaluzzo), Italian Neo-Fascist Group Fascia Rossa’s Billionaire backer from bombarding the city with a biological weapon. Aimed at having immigrants move out of the town, Fascia Rossa wants to use the bomb and blame the carnage on the immigrants. The team’s only way of stopping this is to get to Thomas Andrews (David Sullivan), the designer of the bomb. Despite the team’s leaders’ clashes, they successfully abduct Andrews from a gala organized by Crudele. However, Frankie’s former colleague, Marco (Christos Vasilopoulos) encounters her and blows the whistle on them. Still, the team escapes, taking Andrews with them.
Regardless of Frankie’s strong insistence against Will’s plan, the team ultimately heads out to save Andrews’ daughter, Isabella (Rebecca Lousie Monaghan) from Fascia Rossa. Unfortunately, Crudele and his men reach Isabella first and abduct her. In the chaos, Marco manages to shoot Andrews, Jai takes friendly fire from Edgar, and both Frankie and Will lose Marco to the crowd. Luckily, Jai managed to place a tracker on Marco’s bike, so they follow the signal.
Bomb Defusal
The signal takes them to the town plaza, where large crowds gather to in celebration of a local festival. Since the bomb emits some strange signal, Jai and Edgar quickly find its location. However, when Frankie and Will look around them, they see nothing. The screens tell Jai and Edgar that the Agents stood within the signal’s source. Luckily, Will’s quick thinking helps them realize what is going on: the bomb is underground.
Will and Frankie easily found the bomb due to its massive size. Initially, Marco has the element of surprise as he ambushed both Agents. Still, the duo manages to take Marco down. Now they had a more immediate concern: bomb defusing. While Susan quickly disperses the crowd above, Will carefully guides Frankie through removing the bomb’s intricate trigger. Thankfully, the Agents keep the weapon from exploding. Regardless of Marco’s planted booby trap on the trigger, Will and Frankie leave the sewers alive, saving both the city and the team.
Whiskey and Fiery officially end the mission by rescuing Andrews’ daughter, Isabelle. Just as Crudele thought that their tracks are clean, the Agents make the grandest of all entrances, picking off Crudele’s goons one by one. The innocent looking child looked into Frankie’s eyes, thankful for her rescue. Will smiled as he saw Frankie lifts Isabelle and head out of the sketchy area.
Datta v Standish
More often than not, a team’s tech guys usually get along. Team Whiskey seems to be an exception to this rule as Jai and Edgar get on each other’s nerves. Since Edgar has no field experience nor weapons training, Jai refuses to issue him a gun. Edgar accepts this fact and wishes only to learn, but the members of the team seem reluctant to train him. Were it not for Susan’s intervention, Jai and Edgar would probably end up jeopardizing the mission due to their differences. The heat of the action often make the Agents say questionable things, but Team Whiskey’s tech guys know how to get past them.
No Attachments
Frankie saw Will’s emotion as a significant problem to the team. To her, having attachments keeps an Agent from making the right decisions during desperate times. On the other hand, Will views attachments as a team’s strength as it ensures that all team members have each others’ backs. Throughout the mission, Will tries to pry into Frankie’s soft spot, but to no avail. It did not take a genius to figure out Will’s opening up strategy, so Frankie found herself constantly blocking his attempts. In multiple occasions, Will and Frankie clashed. Perhaps the only time they ever got along was during life-threatening situations.
The Team is Safe
No amount of arguments, friendly fire incidents, or seemingly impossible odds to beat kept Team Whiskey from completing a mission. The end of Fascia Rossa meant the team’s continued operation. Yes, there are some things that they would have to work out, both individually and as a team. However, the pros of having them handle the world’s toughest high profile cases outweighed the cons. Team Whiskey is sure to handle whatever the Bureau throws at them.
‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 3 ‘When in Rome’ Final Verdict
This episode brings the realistic side of the effects of co-op missions. Often, Agents from different agencies, such as the FBI and the CIA find it hard to cooperate without trying to outmatch the other. In this case, Whiskey and Fiery wishes to assert their dominance. The plot presents such scenarios in a funny, romantic way, strongly hinting at a possible romantic relationship between the two protagonists.
Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, March 20th, with ‘Mrs. & Mr. Trowbridge’ at 10/9c on ABC.
