Published 6 years ago
Whiskey Cavalier goes deep into enemy territory but not in his terms. Luckily, Team Whiskey bails him out before the Organ Harvesting Syndicate could take his healthy heart for someone else. This time around, he experiences heartache like never before. When the murder of his girlfriend happens, he stops at nothing to find and kill the one responsible– or so he thought.
On Wednesday night’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Emma Davies’ (Ophelia Lovibond) murder shocks Team Whiskey. To deal with grief, Jai Datta (Vir Das) and Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams) open up to each other. Meanwhile, Susan Samson (Ana Ortiz) and Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins) find comfort in doing things together. On the field, Will Chase (Scott Foley) falls into a dark, edgy phase until Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) saves him from falling any further.
Unsettling Thoughts
Being Team Whiskey’s tech guys, Jai and Edgar could not help but feel invisible at times. Often, they stay behind the comfort of their screens, giving Will and Frankie technical support. The sudden loss of Emma made Jai wonder about what would happen if he died. At first, Edgar does not seem to notice Jai reaching out to him until Tina Marek (Marika Dominczyk) points it out to him. Despite this, Edgar manages to get Jai to open up to him about his worries. Upon learning about it, Edgar assures Jai that he and the team will be there, should the unfortunate event of his death happen. After all, they are a family, and they all love Jai.
Comfort Food
Everyone has different ways of dealing with grief; Susan and Ray’s approach happened to involve sex. Initially starting as a one-time thing, they found themselves sneaking off to do the deed, even when they were on the mission. While Susan did feel horrible for doing it, she did not have the guts to stop herself, either. Ray, on the other hand, was Ray, so he does not have much to lose. Frankie eventually finds out about what they have been doing, wholly disgusted and disappointed. Still, she agrees not to tell Will since it would both jeopardize their friendship as well as the team’s dynamic. When the mission ends, Susan tries to break things off, but it was useless; Ray still waited for her in the car outside the base.
Two Frankies
Will’s idea of mourning involved finding and killing Emma’s killer, and Frankie loved every bit of it. Will was cold-blooded and heartless, stopping at nothing to get closer to Emma’s murderer. However, the team worried about what Will was doing since he could quickly go down a dark road and never come back. Because of this, Susan has Frankie try to reach out to him, but it fails.
After their encounter with a potential informant, Will decides to take matters into his hands. Emma’s murderer, Henri Griffin (Jarreth J. Merz), has tons of different aliases, but the team found one that he used frequently and tracked him based on what they knew. The informant, a known associate of Griffin’s, refused to talk, so Will resorted to torture, going as far as threatening to burn the man alive. Frankie stops him from doing so, but she does not stop him from leaving.
When Alex Ollerman (Dylan Walsh) calls Will to reveal Griffin’s location, Will takes the risk and heads to the coordinates. Ollerman wanted either of them to die since they are both loose ends to him. Luckily, Team Whiskey manages to listen in on their conversation, so Frankie and Susan race to the place. They arrive just in time to stop Will from killing Griffin, who ends up dead anyway when Susan shoots him as he reached for a concealed pistol.
The mission was a success, but it did not feel that way to Will. Ollerman was still out there, and to Will, the only real way for him to avenge Emma was if he killed Ollerman. Regardless, he proposes a toast to the team’s hard work, and Tina even hands him a marble slate with a star engraved on it in honor of Emma’s sacrifice. As the episode ends, however, Emma’s real killer is revealed to be no other than Tina, placing the same pistol that killed Emma on the table.
‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 10 ‘Good Will Hunting’ Final Verdict
While we all knew that Emma was not going to stay long, we did not expect her to go out the way she did. Seeing a dramatic change to Will’s character was both fantastic and scary, most notably when Will resorted to torture. How the team dealt with the unsettling loss showed how human they are despite the things that they deal with in their line of work. When the time comes for Will and Frankie to face Ollerman, they better have the chance to end his life in their terms. That creep caused enough pain more than he should.
Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, May 8th with ‘College Confidential’ at 10/9c on ABC.
