While the show never got as popular as Game of Thrones, Westworld was still considered to be top notch drama, and a lot of fans were disappointed to hear that it was cancelled after its fourth season. Buckle up though, because things could be getting worse.
According to Deadline, Westworld (along with Joss Whedon’s The Nevers) is reportedly being removed from HBO Max. We don’t know exactly why the title is being removed from the platform, but some fans think this could be another tax write-off scheme from new CEO David Zaslav.
Though Westworld is being removed from HBO Max, it’s said that the show could be released in another Warner Bros. Discovery-owned platform someday in the future. It’s just odd that it would have to be removed from the main HBO Max streaming service. Who knows, maybe it can find its way back to the platform in the future, since it’s normal for streaming services to cycle their content.
The cancellation of Westworld came as such a shock for fans, as the series from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy was critically acclaimed, with high-end production value and very intelligent (some could even say too intelligent) writing. Though we weren’t getting a season five, it’s certainly a bummer to think that we won’t know where to access the show.
Hopefully the removal is only temporary, and we can get a bunch of content back on the platform—just like the recently cancelled Minx.
We don’t know where Westworld could pop up next, but I’m hoping their new home greenlights a fifth season before all the actors get too busy.
