'Westworld' Season 2 Super Bowl Trailer: The Hosts Take Their World Back

Today marks two new feats for HBO: a new trailer for “Westworld” Season 2, and the network’s first Super Bowl ad in 20 years! It’s a fantastic day for fans of the Emmy-winning drama, as they’re now in for a second season this April.
The last episode of “Westworld” Season 1 ended with the Hosts taking over the park, and with Robert Ford’s (Anthony Hopkins) death at the hands of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). At first, it was kept under wraps how the story would move forward, but now we know what happens next—the park will fall, and the Hosts will rise.
The trailer starts off with a chipper mood and eventually takes us to a harrowing incident behind the scenes of the park. It seems like the mechanical animals gained a mind of their own as they attack the park’s guards. Of course, leading the revolution is Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton), who has now become sufficiently self-aware. It’s a classic tale of bionics taking over the human world—but then again, it was never the humans’ to begin with. Dolores narrates throughout the video and wraps it up into a victorious declaration of freedom towards the end.

It’s amazing how the trailer is cut to evoke tension and fear in the midst of an otherwise cheerful soundtrack by series composer Ramin Djawadi. And with all the scenes involving a massive revolution from the park’s Hosts, who knows what other damages could be done, and what it would mean for the humans who run the show?
“Westworld” Season 2 returns Sunday, April 22 with “Journey Into Night” at 9 PM on HBO.
