The ever-expanding cast of “Westworld” has just added Hiroyuki Sanada, from SyFy’s “Helix” and actor for “The Wolverine.” Season 2 Production for HBO’s critically acclaimed sci-fi series is underway. Not much is known about the upcoming season, but some fresh footage has already been released via a preview video from the network.
“Westworld” is based on the 1973 movie of the same name and follows the violent and sexy events happening in the futuristic theme park named “Westworld.” Season 1 challenged and confused audiences with a split-timeline style of exposing the narrative and featuring realistic humanoid robots who suddenly become self-aware. The second season will pick up from where Season 1 left off, which ended in a bloody massacre that killed the theme park’s creator, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins).
What role will Hiroyuki Sanada play in ‘Westworld’ Season 1?
TV Guide confirmed Sanada’s casting earlier today and also announced that he will play a character named Musashi. That being said, Sanada’s casting doesn’t necessarily confirm that “Westworld” Season 2 will have a new park built around the Samurai premise. However, with the casting of an Asian actor, it’s no doubt that fans will come to that conclusion. Sanada joins the Gustaf Skarsgård (Vikings), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Fares Fares (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jonathan Tucker (American Gods), Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow) and Katja Herbers (The Leftovers) on the roster of new cast members for season 2.
Apart from these casting details for “Westworld” Season 2, not much is known. With production still underway, it’s going to be a while before we get some real information on what to expect for Season 2. What we do know is that the Hosts will take over the park and will hunt down guests to kill them.
Principal characters Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, James Marsden and Jeffrey Wright are all confirmed to return for the second season.
“Westworld” Season 2 premieres sometime during Spring 2018 on HBO.
