It’s only been two weeks since “Westworld” returned for a second season, but it looks like the story will continue well into a third installment. HBO just announced in a press release today that the show just got renewed for season three.
Ever since “Westworld” debuted in early 2016, the unique narrative (a remake of the original 1973 movie of the same name and directed by “Jurassic Park” writer Michael Crichton) raked up devoted fans and followers. And when the first season ended on a cliffhanger, anticipation for the continuation of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve’s (Thandie Newton) host rebellion grew even more.
HBO Programming president Casey Bloys announced “Westworld’s” season three renewal today and offered up a statement praising the show’s cast and crew. “It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” said Bloys. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
So far, the second episode premiered last Sunday and showed us that there’s more than just the singular wild west theme park of “Westworld.” Episode teased that there are actually six different parks aside from the one where Dolores and Maeve currently reside. The Shogun World Park was also teased to be the next big theme park next to that of “Westworld’s.” However, the premiere episode hinted at many twists and confusion, prompting a “soft reboot” of the show. Shocking reveals were also exposed, and a few surprises were thrown here and there.
Given the direction that “Westworld” is headed, one can only imagine the theories and conclusions that can be drawn before the third season comes rolling in. Catch up on our latest recaps for Westworld, with Episode 1, “Journey Into Night” and Episode 2, titled “Reunion.”
“Westworld” continues next Sunday, May 6th, with “Virtù e Fortuna” at 9/8c on HBO.
