Bill Skarsgard had a great two-movie run as Pennywise in the new IT movies, but it looks like he’s not done playing the alien clown just yet.
Talking to Critical Overlord, insider Jeff Sneider has shared that Skarsgard will be returning as Pennywise (or an earlier version of the character) in the HBO Max spinoff Welcome to Derry. Here’s the post:
Bill Skarsgard will reportedly return as Pennywise for 'WELCOME TO DERRY'.

We don’t have any official details about the spinoff series yet, but it’s said to be following the town of Derry years before Pennywise ran into the Losers Club in the first film. There is actually a deleted scene from the films in which Pennywise (in an earlier form) terrorizes a woman during the 1600s by forcing her to feed him her child in exchange for the safety of her family. Though that was too violent to put into the movie, I feel it’s pretty much grounds for a spinoff series where we see Pennywise evolve through the years until he decides that he should be a clown.
Though the first movie was pretty well-received, a lot of fans had figured out the predictable formula of Pennywise scares by the second film. With the series though, we should expect the story to go a number of places, but we’ll have to wait and see until HBO gives us our first look.
Welcome to Derry still has no release date, but expect the show to premiere on HBO Max.
