Daniel Radcliffe to Play Weird Al Yankovic in Pseudo-Biopic

Of the three main stars of the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe continues to have the most colorful career. Now he’s set to play one of the most colorful people in the industry—Weird Al Yankovic–in a biopic.

As per the AV Club, Radcliffe will be playing “Weird Al” in a pseudo-biopic—meaning that it won’t be as true to life, but will still have some elements of the truth. The movie was written by Yankovic himself with Eric Appel, who was also behind Weird, Funny or Die’s 2013 mock trailer for Weird Al’s life story.

In a press release for the movie, Yankovic had this to say about Radcliffe getting cast to play him:

“When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule… absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

With kooky roles in Miracle Workers, Swiss Army Man, and Guns Akimbo, we know that Radcliffe is no stranger to “weird” roles, and it’s going to be fun to actually watch him sing (and possibly dance) his way through a Weird Al film.

As of now, no release date has been set for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, but it is expected to release on The Roku Channel via Funny or Die and Tango.
