Weird: Daniel Radcliffe is an Even Weirder Al Yankovic in Latest Trailer

Just like Elvis Presley and Freddie Mercury, Weird Al Yankovic is getting his own musical biopic, and Daniel Radcliffe is set to play him in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

A new trailer for the movie just dropped and it highlights Radcliffe’s take on Weird Al as well as the other celebrities he found himself connected to when he rose to fame. Watch this:

Explores every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.

While we should expect some parts of the story to be based on real-life, it would be incredibly off-brand for Weird Al if the film took itself too seriously; and it feels like the movie is putting the idea on its head. Like any musical biopic, Weird Al is shown to go through hard times and struggle with his growing ego—top that off with the ‘bad influence’ that is Madonna.

The trailer looks absolutely silly, and it kind of feels like another attempt at parodying the musical biopic formula—only this time, it’s based on a real person. Before that, we got the cult hit Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story starring John C. Reilly—which everyone should absolutely check out.

For now, it looks like Radcliffe is having a lot of fun with Weird, and I can’t wait to see the film when it premieres later this year. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story stars streaming on Roku this Nov. 4.
