The Addams Family is set to return to live-action with the upcoming Wednesday series on Netflix, and the premiere is set later this month. Though we don’t have a new trailer, we do have a new look at the title sequence which sets the whole tone of the series.
Watch this:
When it comes to modern television opening sequences, we’ve gotten a lot of CG sequences with instrumental music playing over them—which is pretty much what we got with Wednesday. If anything, it really does give us a good handle on what kind of mood the series is going for. I guess for me, it’s kind of too dark; some people can forget that the Addams Family franchise at its very core is a comedy.
I’ll admit, I was initially sceptical about the show, seeing that it has too many similarities with the now-cancelled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but I think it’s actually an interesting direction to take the franchise, and maybe it can be an avenue for another live-action Addams Family movie in the future.
Plus, I think some parents will be relieved there’s some kind of gothic YA series out there that doesn’t involve so much Satan-worshipping.
WEDNESDAY — starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci and more — is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Snap snap.
Wednesday premieres on Netflix this coming Nov. 23.
