Watchmen Series Creator Damon Lindelof Allegedly Writing Star Wars Movie

Lucasfilm may have taken a Star Wars breather after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, but fans still can’t wait for the franchise to come back to the big screen. Just in, a rumor is going around that one of TV’s most celebrated writers is working on an actual SW movie.

As per The Ankler, Watchmen and The Leftovers showrunner Damon Lindelof is said to be working on a Star Wars movie. We don’t have any official details from Lindelof, but he has told Fandom before that he would be interested in working for Marvel or Star Wars, should they get a bit more experimental. He says:

“… at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe… Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”

Seeing that Star Wars fans in general are downright impossible to please, I hope that Lindelof (if he is writing a Star Wars movie) approaches it from a storytelling perspective; and not just try to please the fans. That’s kind of the hole that Lucasfilm has dug itself in with The Book of Boba Fett, and despite its praise for CG Luke Skywalker and all things Mandalorian, the series was kind of a mess when it came to Boba’s character.

I just hope that by now, Disney and Lucasfilm are finally used to fan vitriol and would steer the ship more clearly without being swayed by loud fans online. Lindelof did some wonderful, meaningful work with Watchmen despite the decriers, and it would be great if he could do something of the same caliber with Star Wars.

The next SW project, Obi-Wan Kenobi, hits Disney+ on May 25.
