Watch Trailer for the Remastered Oldboy Re-Release

With director Park Chan-wook once again coming to the spotlight with last year’s Decision to Leave, Neon has decided to remaster and re-release his cult movie Oldboy. A new trailer just dropped for the re-release, and we get to see a lot of trippy scenes that made the film what it was.

Check this out:

The synopsis for the movie reads:

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik) is released, only to find that he must find his captor in five days.

The trailer doesn’t really go into the story of the film, but we have a lot of teases for some iconic scenes including the one-take hallway fight scene (way before Daredevil made it a thing), and the part where Oh Dae-su eats a live octopus.

Oldboy was a movie that came out back in 2003, and is considered to be a masterpiece of mindbending storytelling from Park. Hollywood decided to remake the movie back in 2013 with Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen, but it wasn’t well-received by anyone. At least with the 2023 remaster, maybe more people can check out why every cinephile has Oldboy as one of their must-watch movies.

With so many critics falling in love with Park’s style in Decision to Leave, Oldboy is still a great example of the extension of Park’s imagination, and it’s a film that definitely sticks to you long after you’ve seen it.

The remastered edition of Oldboy is set to come to cinemas on Aug. 16.
