Disney may have held Disenchanted back from releasing in theaters, but fans of the original Enchanted love the sequel. One of the stand-out numbers is the villain song of both Malvina (Maya Rudolph) and ‘Wicked Giselle’ (Amy Adams), and Disney has released the full number online for the fans.
Watch this:
With Disney having Giselle poke fun at Disney princess tropes in the first film, it’s absolutely brilliant that they decided to turn her into a pseudo-villain in the sequel—complete with evil cat and villain song. You also have to love how Maya Rudolph manages to stand beside Adams onscreen. I guess they could have ramped up Malvina’s deviousness a bit more, but I’m pretty happy with what we managed to get.
It’s not clear if Disenchanted closes the book on the franchise, but there is a lot of room to push the story forward. Morgan could pretty much be the new protagonist of the next film, and I think Disney’s new formula for their animated princesses merits the same kind of fun poke that the Enchanted franchise has been doing with its films.
It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
