We don’t know when we’re going to get the next Ghostbusters movie yet, but we have been getting some interesting reveals time and again from the Ghost Corps. marketing team. Just in, we have a VFX breakdown of how they brought Harold Ramis back to life (sort of) for the role of old Egon Spengler.
Watch this:
Just like what they did with Blade Runner 2049, they tried to replicate shots of Ramis with a completely replaced digital double. What’s crazy is, they also had to age up the double a bit to showcase an older Egon. They also brought in actor Bob Gunton (Shawshank Redemption) to act as Ramis’ body double for the film.
It’s probably a tad nitpicky at this point, but I kind of wish that Egon talked a little. His voice is pretty specific, and his dry delivery is always what made his character shine. Besides that, I kind of wish that all the other Ghostbusters had showed up in the film earlier so their return in the finale felt more organic.
Like a lot of reboot/sequels, I think Ghostbusters: Afterlife did a pretty good job at rejuvenating the franchise. While the film isn’t perfect, I think they really did the job of introducing a whole new generation of kids to a world of bustin’ ghosts. Hopfully the sequel gets announced soon, and we see a return to New York and the spectres that haunt the city.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now available on Blu-Ray/4K UHD and digital.
