Watch: Colin Farrell’s Penguin Transformation in The Batman

With the release of The Batman on HBO Max, fans have been treated to some behind-the-scenes looks at the movie, with actors talking about their roles and director Matt Reeves talking about the themes that went into making the story.

Colin Farrell’s Penguin transformation has always been one of the more fascinating things about the film, and we have some new BTS footage of Farrell making the turn into Oz Cobblepot. Watch this:

Admittedly, Farrell was unrecognizable in the final movie, and he also managed to bring in a completely new personality when it came to Falcone’s right-hand man. While Danny DeVito’s Penguin leaned more into the ‘monster man’ element, Farrell’s Penguin is more of the modern mob boss—like Tony Soprano from The Sopranos.

Though Batman is the main character of the film, the movie does serve as some kind of origin to his rogues gallery. Now there’s a lot of room for Oz’s rise to power in the underworld, and the Riddler has amassed followers and a friendship with a would-be Joker. Who knows what Battinson could be going up against in the sequel?

Farrell is actually set to star in an HBO Max series that will put the focus on Penguin and his rise to power. We don’t know exactly what direction the series is going for, but I’m all for it embracing the grittier Gotham that Reeves has built.

For now, The Batman is available both in theaters and on HBO Max.
