Dylan O’Brien faces the tragedies of his past in the official trailer of “American Assassin.” Michael Cuesta helms the films and stars Michael Keaton, Sanaa Lathan, Shiva Negar, Scott Adkins, and Taylor Kitsch. The film follows the tale of a Central Intelligence Agency recruit, Mitch Rapp, whose fate is entangled with a Cold War veteran Stan Hurley.
American Assassin’ Trailer Breakdown
The trailer starts off with CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan), forcing Mitch to remember his life. He went back to the day when he lost his parents and started having discipline disorders. Kennedy furthered the questioning when she asked Mitch what happened during “that” day at the beach.
A flashback follows wherein Mitch is enjoying the sun on a tropical beach, proposing to his girlfriend. Moments after, terrorists came shooting every person they come across. Mitch’s girlfriend was killed, leaving him grieving and seeking for revenge.
Mitch serves a black ops mission in the Middle East. He believes he can wipe out the anti-imperialist terrorist group responsible for his girlfriend’s death. Irene took interest in Mitch’s agenda. That is why she pairs him to Stan Hurley- a feared warrior in the CIA. The two trains together, landing heavy blows on one another, handling knives and guns, as they ready themselves for their absolute mission. In the trailer, Stan asks Mitch to kill him. With no second thoughts, Mitch immediately charged at Stan with a knife, stabbing the veteran. Unlike his role in “The Maze Runner”, Dylan O’Brien in this movie can straight up kill anyone.
“American Assassin” is based on Vince Flynn’s novel of the same title. The screenplay for this action-adventure is written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
“American Assassin” hits the theaters on September 15.
