[00:00:30] The church finally elects a new pope: Cardinal Duretti. The other cardinals congratulate him. Meanwhile, Ava comes face-to-face with Angel Adriel. He thanks Ava for returning his halo. Ava asks herself how Adriel could know her name. Adriel responds he knows many things despite being locked up in the tomb for over a thousand years. It seems Adriel could read the minds of the halo-bearers, given it’s his halo they’re carrying.
[00:02:30] Lilith, Mary, and Beatrice wait outside the entrance to Adriel’s tomb. Lilith begins to worry. Father Vincent and Mother Superion arrive to ask them what happened. Beatrice tells them Ava is inside the tomb, and about five minutes have passed. Ava needs seven minutes to recharge the halo before trying to phase back. Lilith offers to blow the tomb using the dynamite Beatrice brought. Mary tells Lilith she shouldn’t be touching the dynamites in her condition. Lilith responds she’s just trying to help. Beatrice assures them Ava could do it, but she asks for Lilith’s help to drill holes into the tomb’s entrance just in case Ava doesn’t come out after the agreed-upon time.
[00:05:00] Beatrice and Lilith start drilling holes while Ava continues speaking with Adriel. Adriel says explaining everything to her would just confuse her fragile mind. Ava tells Adriel to cut the story short and just tell her what he’s doing alive inside his tomb. Adriel tells her that Areala tricked him—she stole his halo. Ava thought Adriel gave up his halo willingly. “That gesture is perverted into a betrayal of the highest order,” Adriel responds. Meanwhile, Jillian continues to review the footage of Lilith phasing out of Arq-Tech. She receives a message: “Duretti elected Pope.” Jillian can’t believe the news; she immediately calls Kristian to her office.
[00:07:00] Jillian sees Michael trying to remove the tubes connected to his hands. She rushes to stop him. He tells Jillian to take him to the ark. He had a vision of ghosts looking at him inside a pit. Jillian doesn’t understand what Michael refers to as a pit, but Michael requests to be taken to the ark. She tells Michael the ark isn’t ready, but he insists the time is upon them. Jillian disagrees; she tells her son she will heal him. But Michael knows healing him is impossible—that’s why Jillian created the ark. Michael tells her not to cry and just take him to the ark. Jillian agrees to his request.
[00:08:40] Adriel explains when Pope Urban II was made aware of Areala and her gifts, the pope contrived to keep the powers of the halo to himself. He knew Adriel needed to be removed, but they couldn’t kill him, so they created a cage to lock him up for all eternity. Ava tells Adriel he’s proof of heaven, so she doesn’t understand why the church needs to lock him up. He tells Ava the church’s existence is based upon faith in things that cannot be proven. Adriel tells Ava, “Without faith, there’s no manipulation. Without manipulation, there’s no fear. And without fear, there’s no power.” Meanwhile, Pope Duretti goes to the papal office to finalize his rise to power. He tells the staff to give him a few moments alone to prepare himself to address the crowd outside.
[00:12:00] Duretti uses the phone and contacts the commander of the Swiss Guard. Adriel tells Ava he doesn’t blame Areala for what happened to him. The people around Areala used her innocence and loyalty for their gain. Adriel knows what is happening outside the world; his halo and armor are connected to him, feeding him information. He could piece everything together, but he still felt lonely being inside the tomb for thousands of years. Ava tells Adriel she knows the feeling of being alone, to which he responds, “We don’t have to be alone anymore.”
[00:15:00] Jillian brings Michael to the ark. He tells Jillian the ark will open soon as promised by his angel. Jillian hugs Michael as they wait for the ark to open. Kristian goes to Ava’s office, but she isn’t there. He opens one of the rooms and finds all of Michael’s drawings. Kristian bursts into tears; he realizes the drawings are proof of a parallel world. Meanwhile, Ava agrees with Adriel’s notion of no longer being alone. She has the same goal as Adriel. Ava doesn’t want any more nuns to be used by the church for their gain. Ava agrees to return the halo to Adriel, meaning she would be the last warrior nun.
[00:18:00] Adriel tells Ava she may survive even without the halo, but she may return to her crippled state. Ava still agrees, knowing what lies ahead, as long as she achieves her purpose. Adriel holds Ava’s shoulder. She gets a glimpse of the past, showing Adriel snatching the halo from Areala, screaming in pain. The glimpse of the past doesn’t add up with Adriel’s story, so Ava stops him from retrieving the halo. Lilith continues drilling holes in the wall as they pass the ten-minute mark. Mary tells them something is wrong; Ava is supposed to be back by now. Beatrice tells them she will begin laying down dynamite charges, but they need a new escape plan. Once the charges blow, the place will be swarming with Swiss Guards. Mother Superion offers help to get Camila.
[00:19:00] Father Vincent tells Mother Superion to make sure they get out safely and not wait for them. Ava asks Adriel what he plans on doing with the halo once he gets it back. He plans to go back to his angel state and get rid of all evil. As Adriel touches Ava’s face, she gets transported back to the past. Ava fills Areala’s shoes at the moment of her death. Adriel appears out of a portal using the halo. A Tarask follows him, but he manages to slay the beast. Another Tarask is set to appear, but Adriel places the halo inside Ava’s back to stop the Tarask from appearing. Ava wakes up and speaks to Adriel. She finds out Adriel is not an angel, threatening Ava to keep his secret, so she won’t die.
[00:27:00] Ava returns to the present to confront Adriel. She tells him he’s not a real angel. Adriel confirms and forcefully takes the halo from her. While Adriel grabs the halo, the ark starts to power up. Michael sees the ark stabilizing and makes a run for it. Jillian tries to stop him, but Kristian arrives, distracting her momentarily. Michael gets free and runs towards the ark, entering the portal. The portal closes—Adriel cannot get the halo from Ava. The tomb collapses on them as Ava loses consciousness. Jillian cries; her son doesn’t come back from the portal.
[00:30:30] Everyone feels the rumble of the collapse. Beatrice sets the charges; they know something is happening inside the tomb. Ava wakes up to see Adriel buried in the rocks. Pope Duretti finally addresses the crowd in St. Peter’s Square. As he addresses the crowd, the explosion happens, and part of the square collapses. Mother Superion confronts Duretti. He denies all accusations; he didn’t order anyone to be killed. He did his best to keep his reputation intact, so he could become pope and save the OCS. Duretti asks Mother Superion who is throwing such accusations against him. Mother Superion feels weak; she realizes who the real enemy is.
[00:33:30] Ava tells everyone who the enemy is. She tells them the man inside the tomb is Adriel, and he’s not an angel but a demon. Adriel can escape the tomb because Beatrice and the rest of the team blew the entrance. Father Vincent approaches Adriel and addresses him as his master. Vincent tells Adriel he cannot make himself known to the world yet. Mary realizes Vincent betrayed them—Vincent killed Shannon.
[00:36:00] Adriel whispers something into Vincent’s ears as Mary charges at him. Lilith stops Mary as she knows she could die while killing Vincent. Lilith approaches Adriel. He tries to use his powers on Lilith, but it doesn’t work, so Adriel knows Lilith has been to the other side. He asks Lilith what she is, but she doesn’t care to tell him.
[00:38:00] The team engages Adriel as Vincent stands by. They take Adriel down, but he gets back up. He tells them they couldn’t beat him. Everyone responds they just needed seven minutes for Ava to recharge her halo. Adriel calls his wraith demons for assistance; he’s no match for Ava. The demons take control of the crowd around them. Vincent knows he needs to leave, so he blends in the crowd and disappears. The possessed crowd walk towards Ava and her team. They group together saying, “In this life or the next,” but suddenly Mary goes forward, changing her mantra, “In this life.”
