'Walking Dead' Star Christian Serratos In Talks To Star In Netflix's Selena Series

The Walking Dead star Christian Serratos is in negotiations to star in Netflix’ upcoming biographical series of Tejano music superstar Selena Quintanilla according to The Wrap.

Netflix picked up the series titled Selena: The Series December last year. According to the official logline, the Selena Series is a coming of age story. It follows Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.

Selena was one of the best-selling Latin artists in the 90s. She even won a Grammy in 1994 for Best Mexican/American Album, selling 60 million albums worldwide. However, her rise to stardom stopped short just when she was at the height of her career. Just when she was preparing to cross over to mainstream American music, she was shot and killed by her business associate and manager Yolanda Saldivar. Selena’s Dreaming of You album which was released after her death even debuted in the Billboard 200. It was the first predominantly Spanish-language album to reach such heights.

Christian Serratos Relives Selena’s Story in the Selena Series

Decades before Netflix picked up the idea, Selena’s story was told by Gregory Nava’s 1997 biopic Selena starring Jennifer Lopez. Lopez’ casting was met by backlash from the Latino community. However, according to Vulture, public perception changed with the release of the film showcasing Lopez’ embodiment of the singer. Now, Serratos is up to fill in those shoes in the Selena Series.

Serratos is most known for her role as Rosita Espinosa in The Walking Dead. She joined the show in its fourth season and now, Season 10 is set to debut on October 10th. It’s unknown how it would affect her attendance on The Walking Dead if she does take up the starring role in the Selena series. Serratos’ other TV credits include shows like American Horror Story, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. She also appeared in the Twilight saga, Flight 7500, and Pop Star.

Selena: The Series is written and will be executive produced by American Crime’s Moises Zamora. The Quintanilla family is also on board in the series development. Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and her sister Suzette Quintanilla along with their family attorney Simran A. Singh will be executive producing. Campanario Entertainment will produce.
