Viola Davis Reprising Amanda Waller for Peacemaker Spinoff

It looks like we’ll be seeing more of Viola Davis in the DCEU.
Deadline is reporting that she’ll be returning in a Peacemaker spinoff centered on her character Amanda Waller. We don’t have that many details about the plot, but it’s confirmed to be the second DC series that James Gunn is working on, and it ‘won’t be as much comedy as Peacemaker.’
It’s also worth noting that Watchmen writer Christal Henry will write and executive produce the series as well. With the high bar that Watchmen has set for comic book adaptations, I’m excited to see what Henry has to bring to the table when it comes to the character of Waller.
Just like the character of Jim Gordon, Waller is a character from the comics who may not be super, but she is definitely well-connected to that world. Her live-action translation is basically faithful to her comic counterpart, in that she’s a ruthless Machiavellian leader of Task Force X who will do anything it takes to get the mission done—no matter the cost.
Admittedly, there had been a change in her character when it comes to the first Suicide Squad and the sequel, but I’m excited to see an exploration of Amanda Waller. While an origin story could be the obvious spinoff, I think it would be cool to watch her react to events that take place from Man of Steel or Batman v Superman—forcing her to create Task Force X.
Who knows, maybe we can see more of her daughter Leota Adebayo from Peacemaker.
No release date has been set for the Amanda Waller series, but you can catch her in Peacemaker now available on HBO Max.
