Just after his Happy Death Day 2U project, director Christopher Landon already has another thriller film in line. Landon’s upcoming but yet untitled body-swap thriller will be starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton, Blumhouse announced.
According to TheWrap, Newton will be starring as a high school student who swaps bodies with a deranged serial killer to be played by Vaughn. She will only have 24 hours to find a way to revert the switch before it becomes permanent. Productions for the film are set to begin in October in Atlanta, Georgia. Aside from that, other details about the film are still being kept under tight secrecy. Given Landon’s fresh take on his Happy Death Day films though, fans are already expecting another treat from this film.
Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton on the Thriller Stage
For Newton, this isn’t her first time to be starring in the thriller genre. The young actress has actually worked on one of Landon’s projects, Paranormal Activity 4, as the main protagonist Alex. This role earned her the 2013 Young Actress Award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film. She was also in CW’s Supernatural as the older version of Claire Novak. More recently, she starred in Netflix’ hit mystery teen drama series The Society. She was also in Detective Pikachu. And she has just come off her role as Reese Witherspoon and Adam Scott’s daughter in Big Little Lies.
Vaughn, on the other hand, has recently been straying from his usual comedy roles in the past few years. Starting with HBO’s True Detectives, Vaughn has since started taking on more serious roles. He was in Hacksaw Ridge and Brawl in Cell Block 99. More recently, he starred in the underdog wrestling movie Fighting With My Family and the gritty indie Dragged Across Concrete. He’ll be seen next in Amazon’s drama Seberg alongside Kristen Stewart.
This new film marks another addition to Landon’s long-standing relationship with Blumhouse. His first collaboration with them was in 2010’s Paranormal Activity which Landon co-wrote. He then went on to write the screenplays for Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4. Aside from those, he directed the first two Happy Death Day films and the Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Landon will be directing this new project with a script he co-wrote with Michael Kennedy. And Jason Blum will be producing.
Vince Vaughn, Kathryn Newton, and Christopher Landon are all repped by WME. Landon is also repped by Mosaic while Newton is also repped by Management 360. The news was first reported by Collider.
