Fans of NBC’s This is Us are facing a strange mix of emotions today. We find ourselves both relieved and disappointed that Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) didn’t live up to all the recent foreshadowing by dying in a fiery beer-soaked car crash en route to Rebecca’s first gig in Cleveland.
But now that that particular mystery has been solved (no, we still don’t know how Jack dies, but the show seems to be telling us that’s not important right now) we can finally turn our attention to the finale’s second biggest mystery.
Will Kevin leave Sophie for Ron Howard?

When we last checked in on this recently reunited couple, Kevin (Justin Hartley) seemed to have found a place of contentment in both his personal and professional life. Not only had he proved to everyone (and more importantly to himself) that he was more than just the shirtless Manny, he had found true love with his ex wife. What could possibly put a dampener on that success story? A late night phone call from Ron Howard (the Ron Howard), obviously. Mr Howard, or Ron — can we call him Ron? — had been dragged along by his niece to see a play featuring her favorite actor, the Manny. Ron was impressed by Kevin’s acting. So much so that he thought he might just be the perfect fit for his latest big screen movie project.
The finale saw a flustered Kevin heading off to meet the filmmaker, promising Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) that it was “just an audition,” but sounding more like he was delivering a reluctant goodbye.
Kevin’s situation is one Justin Hartley admits he can relate to. As an actor, reveals Hartley, sacrifice is part of the gig. But does that mean alter-ego Kevin will dump Sophie (again) in his never-ending quest for fame and glory?
