Unicron Looms in Latest Trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Michael Bay wasn’t able to fully tackle his Unicron build-up from the end of Transformers: The Last Knight, but that story looks to be something that’ll be picked up in this year’s Rise of the Beasts.

The latest trailer gives us a look at the planet-sized Transformer, and another all-out war between shapeshifting robots. Check this out:

I have to admit, it was pretty impressive how the first teaser was able to hold back on the Unicron reveal, but he definitely looks amazing here.

For context, Unicron was a villain introduced in the animated Transformers: The Movie, and he was a massive Transformer that was able to consume entire planets. Behind the scenes, he was voiced by Orson Welles, and oddly enough, it turned out to be his final performance before he passed away.

The movie may not have been able to get Welles to reprise the part here, but they did cast Colman Domingo (Euphoria, Candyman) to play the part.

With Bumblebee reseting the Transformers universe, it’s going to be interesting to see where things go moving forward. I don’t know if the Maximals and Predacons will be here to stay, but I’m hoping that the franchise eventually brings back the big villain of the series, Megatron. Will he still be frozen by humans? Could they build up to a multiverse story with Shia LaBeouf? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set to release in theaters on June 29.
