‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 Adds Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, & Marin Ireland As Series Regulars

Umbrella Academy is expanding its team once it returns for a second season on Netflix. Newcomers Ritu Arya (Humans), Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete) are joining the superhero show as series regulars.

Written by former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way with art by Eisner award-winner Gabriel Ba, the original Umbrella Academy comic book series centers on the story of seven extraordinary superpowered children born on the same day from women who spontaneously gave birth to them. They are adopted by millionaire investor Reginald Hargreeves in an effort to “save the world.” The Netflix show followed the uncanny siblings’ lives as they reunite after the death of Reginald.

According to character descriptions by TheWrap, Arya, Gatewood, and Ireland will all be recurring characters with unspecified ties to the Hargreeves children. Arya will play Lila, who is described as “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires. Unpredictable, mischievous and sarcastic, Lila’s gifted with a twisted sense of humor.”

Gatewood will play Raymond, “a born leader with the smarts, gravitas and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone. He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a look. A devoted husband, he’s the kind of guy everyone wants to know.”

Meanwhile, Ireland will portray Sissy, who is described as “a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom who married young for all the wrong reasons. Still in her prime, she’s eager to rediscover what life and love has to offer.”

Umbrella Academy‘s main cast, Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min are all set to reprise their roles as Vanya Hargreeves, Luther Hargreeves, Diego Hargreeves, Alison Hargreeves, Klaus Hargreeevs, Number Five, and Ben Hargreeves respectively. Steve Blackman also returns as the showrunner and executive producer alongside Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, and Keith Goldberg.

Umbrella Academy season 2 has no set release date yet as the show is still in production.
