Twilight TV Series in Development from Lionsgate

The Twilight movies had dominated the pop-culture landscape around the early 2010s, but the series has been dormant for almost a decade with no new entries. As it turns out, Lionsgate has something cooking on the TV side of things.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate Television is in early development stages for a series based on the Twilight saga from Stephenie Meyer. Sinead Daly, who has worked on series including Raised by Wolves, The Get Down, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has been tapped to write the script for the show.
It’s still unclear whether this show would be a reboot of the films or an expansion of the story, but as far but with Harry Potter taking the reboot route with Max and their television series, I won’t be surprised if Twilight decides to do the same thing, casting a new Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.
Despite the popularity of the Twilight series, the films had been infamously bashed by the internet as terrible on the time they came out, and a lot of mean-spirited things have been directed at people involved with the project including Meyer as well as Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
With 2023’s social climate though, I would expect a return to Twilight be treated with a more love from the fanbase. After all, it seems that the franchise reboots that seem to receive the most ire are those mainly focused on men, like the Star Wars films and Marvel Cinematic Universe.
No release date has been announced for this Twilight series, but hopefully we get an update soon.
