In the Ghetto: 5 Things to Know About New Girl’s “Chicago” Episode

New Girl’s “Chicago” sees Jess and the gang headed to Chicago, and Nick’s family home, when Nick receives the unexpected news that his father Walt has died. The episode offers an unusual slice of seriousness by focusing on the individual fears and insecurities the funeral brings out in Schmidt, Winston, Jess and Nick.
We don’t want to spoil the episode for you, so instead we’ve put together five teasers which will help get you in the mood for Tuesday.
1. Nick and Jess Shippers?
Do you ship Nick and Jess? If not, you will after tonight’s episode. If the romantic kiss from “Cooler” didn’t move you (who are you kidding, of course it did) then a more subtle but very public moment will do the trick. Trust us, Momma.
2. The Dearly Departed
Winston will perform a beautiful and moving eulogy … for Schmidt.
3 Uncontrollable Emotion
Who’s the last person you would expect to break down in uncontrollable tears at Nick’s Dad’s funeral? The one who insists the occasion should be thought of as a celebration, perhaps?
4. Jess Faces Scrutiny From Nick’s Mom
Who doesn’t love Jess? Well, Nick’s Mom apparently. “I don’t know you. I don’t know your people,” she tells the well-meaning Jess in a moment laced with suspicion, jealousy and … well, just Miller weirdness, frankly. Oh, and insulting the King does not sit well with the Miller family.
5. We Will See Another Side to Nick
We may think of Nick as a lovable slacker, but “Chicago” shows us another side to our favorite grumpy barman that is equally sad and impressive.
