TV REVIEW: The Vampire Diaries

By Chelsea Ballinger

Tis the season to be a fan of Vampire Diaries. There are only three things to sum up this episode – great chemistry, great music, and tears!

Let’s break down the key event of last night’s “The World Has Turned and Left Me Here”

Ivy, the hungry perky vampire

Ivy, who is now a vampire is panicking because she doesn’t know how to control her hunger and Stefan isn’t much help, so in new Jerk Stefan fashion, he dumps Ivy on Caroline’s door step. We also get to preview of a small portion of the flirtation between Stefan and Caroline, and we are not the only ones noticing it. Ivy badgers Caroline, while sipping on a blood bag to admit that she likes Stefan, and suggests they go unwind.

Ivy: Let’s go party! You can teach me how to eat someone without killing them.”

Props go out to Paul Wesley and Candice Accola for their great chemistry and acting in this transitioning process in their characters’ relationship.

Liam, the hero… and now suspicious

Elena asked Liam to the annual homecoming corn maze. Yes, they are cute, but Liam proved himself to be a hero as he took control and helped the victims of the cornfield incident. The first victim was diagnosed as dead girl bleeding out, but in Vampire fashion Elena healed and compelled her. The second victim, Liam, impressed us all by being a badass doctor and saving them the human way. Saving someone the human way is basically a miracle on this show. Elena was amazed and kissed Liam at the end of the night, but he also saw the first victim, he knew for sure would die, alive and well… something tells me he won’t let this mystery go. Will a Scooby Gang be formed?

Ivy, the vampire that sucks

Ivy was still entertaining, even after she snapped Caroline’s neck so she could go out and play. She found some poor sap and fed from him and succeeded in controlling herself. Gold Star! We were all so proud. Too bad, she didn’t get a lesson in Compelling the Food 101.

“I’m totally gona kill you.”

“I suck at this.”

And she does. She sends the boy running so she won’t kill him, and then gets herself captured by Tripp, the psycho vampire slayer.

Tyler’s Dilemma & his savior

It’s official! Liver is the new favorite Vampire Diaries couple. Please Julie Plec, Let’s bring Penelope Mitchell on as a regular on this show because her and Michael Trevino’s chemistry is great. Ivy’s victim runs in front of Tyler’s truck as he is about to approach the corn field, causing him to not only run over him but a lot of people in the field.

Uh oh.

Even though it was an accident, it doesn’t matter. Life’s unfair and the Supernatural life is also unfair because if one of the victims die, Tyler’s back to howling during a full moon. Everyone on the field survives, but Ivy’s victim is on his way up above. However, the real shocker occurs when Liv smothers him, killing him and also preventing Tyler’s wolf from breaking out. Tyler along with the rest of us, is amazed and grateful for Liv’s sacrifice, ultimately sealing their romance as Epic. Still no kiss, though. Come on guys! Hurry up!

Bonnie aka the bestest friend ever!

Damon and Bonnie finally had hope! Well Damon at least – who couldn’t help but plan his reunion with Elena – but Bonnie was still skeptical of Kai and she was right to be. Turns out the Gemini coven used a Spell created by Bonnie’s coven, meaning there is no need for Kai, the Serial Killer, so Bon Bon kills him. Yay! Now we know the favor Grams pulled off for Bonnie to come back to life. As she and Damon are about to leave, Kai shoots Bonnie with an arrow. Of course Kai can’t die. Who would banish someone to be alone for all eternity and give them the choice of offing themselves, not the Gemini Coven that’s for sure. Damon fights Kai and tells Bonnie to leave without him, but Bonnie in Bon Bon fashion sendsDamon back instead with a smile on her face.

Damon and Bonnie are a great dynamic duo and the scene of last night’s episode where they admitted that they were happy to be stuck in hell together tugged heartstrings. They have this connection where if they didn’t have other soul mates they would probably be a couple. I’ve never read the books, but in the novels they are a couple for a moment in time. Maybe this is the writers way to pay homage to the books that started it all or just awesome chemistry between Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder? But can we address that Bonnie is the best person in the world; I mean how many times can this girl sacrifice herself to bring her friends back to life?!

Stefan, the jerk & Jo, the powerful

Stefan was still a jerk to Caroline and Alaric told off Stefan for giving up on his brother. Go Alaric!

Speaking of our Newbie Original, due to cupid Elena, he enjoyed the company of doctor Jo, but when Jo admitted to Alaric that she had feelings for him and wanted him, badly I might add, he compelled her to not fancy him anymore. Cue Shocker! The compulsion doesn’t work! Jo responds by kissing the Newbie Original. Key word ORIGINAL, meaning the powerful vampires who can compel anyone?!! Meaning Jo, the hot doctor, is something very powerful. Gemini Coven anyone?

Cheers to the Great music and the tears running down your face!

Stefan, after getting into another fight with Caroline, visits the Salvatore crypt with a bottle of bourbon to help him sulk and talk to his dead brother.

“I’m lost, brother.”

Stefan finally lets out his anger over his missing of Damon and throws the bottle of Bourbon, but Eureka! The bottle of bourbon is caught and drank by the one and only and newly back, Damon Salvatore ladies and gents! Stefan, with tears in his eyes doesn’t believe it at first, but after a finger to the shoulder and some more tears, and Cue M83’s awesome song, “Wait,” the brothers embrace in a momentous hug that brings not only themselves but also all of us watching to tears.

Perfect ending to this episode because the love stories are not only relied on for this show, but the friendships and the relationship between two brothers who in spite of it all have survived the worst and still stand by each other. To add, the perfect cast to deliver a stellar performance will leave us counting down the day until these questions are answered.

What will happen when Damon finds out Elena had her love for him erased and is shacking up with Hero, Liam? Will Liam find out more about Elena’s special appetite? When will Liver officially become… well Liver? What is Jo? Is she good or bad? Will Alaric ever just have a good relationship? Will Stefan now go back to being Stefan and love Caroline? Will Enzo and Ivy be saved? Where is Sarah? Where is Jeremy? Will Bonnie ever get out of Kai’s hell? Will the mysterious Gemini Coven be revealed? Will Delena get back to the way they were? And will Alaric and Enzo battle each other for the bar stool next to Damon’s heart?

Until next time my fellow TVD watchers!
