TV REVIEW: Pretty Little Liars “The Silence of E. Lamb” Peels the Never-ending Onion Layers of Rosewood

Pretty Little Liars’ “The Silence of E. Lamb” saw the return of Melissa Hastings to Rosewood, Aria volunteering at Radley, and Hanna continuing her downward decent into terrible choices. There was a kiss, an engagement party invite, and, as always, those deliciously mysterious texts from A.

Aria has taken up volunteering at Radley in order to gain some insight into Bethany Young. She gains some pertinent information while having to deal with a particularly hostile former roommate of Miss Young’s. Eddie Lamb is naturally suspicious of Aria as well as her intentions and insists he knows her from somewhere prior to this shift. Just when viewers couldn’t get any more suspicious of Mr. Lamb, he is supposed to meet with Ezra, but never shows. Now what could have possibly happened to him within that short span of time? In Rosewood anything is possible.

Melissa returns home to find a dead rat in her house and is promptly confronted by Spencer. Neither of whom know a dead rat was also found by Paige in the girls’ locker room. Could this be Mona’s handiwork? Both Paige and Melissa belong to her merry band of misfits. Could they have finally upset Mona enough for her to turn on them? Spencer volunteers to help Ezra move his seemingly endless amount of spy gear and findings to his friend’s shed where he offers a bit of himself to Spencer. It was almost as if he was asking for forgiveness in his own way. He never intended to write a book about them and in the process only made things worse. Or so he thinks. But truth be told, A probably would have continued his or her little scheme regardless of a book. It’s a mystery that must be solved. Anyone would join in. Spencer does the most digging this episode. She borrows some camera equipment from Ezra in order to keep tabs of the home front. She soon discovers Ali and her suspicious behavior which, so far, cannot be explained.

The only real purpose Ali served this week was to create a bit more suspicion with her actions as well as attempt to control Hanna once again. Walking through Spencer’s backyard dressed in dark colors? Where could she possibly be going? What could she possibly be doing? As for her intentions towards Hanna, those are in the murkiest of waters. She doesn’t want Hannah having anything to do with Caleb. But why? What is Ali’s history with Caleb? Ali seems to be adjusting a bit better and even had dinner with Emily, her mother, and Hanna. It seemed as though the only purpose for this little dinner party was to shine a light on Hanna’s impending drinking problem.

Hannah has a lot going on these days. Caleb’s return to town has her a bit shaken up. She has changed her look and now seems to, as previously mentioned, be drinking a bit more to cope with things. Hanna has quite the decision to make regarding her feelings for Caleb. Something he no doubt is also struggling with. He just wants out of Rosewood and there’s just some reason he is staying. That reason, no doubt, has to be Hanna. They kiss, much to the joy of all the Haleb shippers of the world. Unfortunately for Hanna, she had one big slip this go around. She revealed a bit too much to new girl Sydney who viewers may remember is working with Jenna and Mona. That can’t possibly be good for Hanna and the Liars in the long run, can it?

The episode left a little to be desired this week. It was a slow moving affair which gradually peeled back some of the layers on the never ending onion of secrets Rosewood has to offer. A gave viewers a little peek into what is to come: Ella’s engagement party. Everyone knows parties around these parts never go according to plan. The only thing hiding more secrets than the citizens of Rosewood is Harry Style’s hair.
