TV REVIEW: Being Human “Cheater of the Pack”

Wow, it’s already been a week. Another Monday has come and gone.  But, that’s what happens when you’ve been nursing a weeklong blood induced hangover.  I’m not sure how many more werewolf dance parties I can take. I’ve played so many rounds of blood pong and whack-a-wolf I’m having trouble seeing straight.  I guess that’s what you get when you have a perpetually 17 year old running things.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, Being Human was new this week and once again made us have feelings that I’m not even sure can be classified in a dictionary.  Let’s discuss “Cheater of the Pack.”

Ruh Roh: After deciding to join alpha male Mark’s douche pack, Josh woke up to what he thought was Nora after a long night of howling at the moon.  Except for one thing, the blonde wolf next to him wasn’t Nora.  Nope, it was Mark’s wife Wendy and the two looked like they had gotten pretty darn close in the night.  Josh, about to freak out, rushed Nora back home.

Things didn’t ease up on Josh as the duo returned home only to find Robbie, Sally’s degenerate brother, had once again returned to Boston and this time he was hell bent on selling the beloved townhouse. The gang had two choices: vacate in 30 days or buy the place.

As Sally and Aidan discussed ways to scare potential buyers off (mostly Sally trying to convince Aidan to eat anyone who walked through the threshold), Josh kept his mind off the previous night’s events by taking Nora for food and discussing their future together outside of the townhouse.  Nora agreed that they should be starting their lives together as a married couple even though she wasn’t sure if it was the right time for Josh and his wolfy problems to be without his best buds. The couple agreed, though, and even informed Aidan and Sally of their possible plans to move out on their own.

Hungry Hungry Aidan: Trying to stave off his hunger, Aidan could no longer sit inside the house.  His episode required a walk around town and almost had him entering a blood den. Good thing someone, well, not just someone but Suzanna, was stalking the brooding vampire.  She had a better solution for him, one that wouldn’t put him in another blood fueled stupor.

Suzanna escorted Aidan to her place of work at a seedy bar.  Things only intensified when Josh, who had had a less than stellar talk with Wendy about coming clean to their respective spouses about their wolf tryst, joined Aidan for some shot therapy. Aidan informed Josh that it was better to hide secrets from their loved ones if it meant they were protecting them, prompting Suzanna to have a paralleled flashback to when she killed her and Aidan’s son.

After consoling Josh and helping Suzanna close up shop, Aidan was ready to call it a night.  Except, Suzanna was ready to get the night started.  In a moment of weakness and rekindled passion, Aidan and Suzanna put on some James Brown and got freaky under the stars.  Just kidding, they totally did it on a dirty bar stool.

Josh vs. Mark: Back at the house, Josh tried to deflect Nora from any and all conversation about the prior night.  Nora, though, wasn’t buying it.  After Josh suggested they leave Boston completely, Nora knew something was bothering her husband.  It seemed like Josh was finally going to admit to his wrong doings, but before he could Mark burst through the door, ready to pounce.  Thinking her husband would understand, Wendy had told Mark about her and Josh’s wolves doing it doggy style. Mark was livid, ready to tear Josh apart.  Things only escalated when Mark pushed Nora off of him, prompting Josh to wolf-out and come moments away from killing Mark.

Mark and Wendy scurried away, but the problems didn’t end there; Nora had had enough.  She could no longer sit by and watch Josh and his wolf battle for dominance, it seemed like Josh’s wolf was winning the battle and it scared her.

Let’s Do the Time Warp Again:  As Robbie continued to show potential families the town home, Sally was left to come up with ways to scare them off on her own.  She decided to screw it and gamble with another time jump by putting a spell on the home that made it smell like a “bog of eternal stench.” The spell worked on couple #1 but sent Sally back to 2009, where she saw face-to-face the kind of asshole her murderous boyfriend Danny was.  She watched as Robbie and Danny continued to fight over Sally’s happiness, breaking her heart in the process.

Back in 2013 (or is it 2014 on the show already? They all seem to be wearing shorts and minimal clothing so I’m really not sure what season/year it is anymore. I digress.), Lil’ Smokie was taking the reins on the house scaring, warding off potential buyers by using ghostly powers to screw with the electricity and send a young boy screaming.

In an ultimate act of defense, Lil’ Smokie used her abilities to send the pipes bursting, filling the floor with water and making an electrical tool fall right into a puddle where Robbie was fixing the pipes.  Unable to do anything, with no one to save him, Robbie was electrocuted, bringing the death toll of the house up by one.

Back from 2009, Sally returned in time to find her brother, now a ghost, lingering over his dead body.

Robbie wasn’t the only casualty of the episode.  In a moment of complete weakness, Aidan gave into to his instinctual urges and murdered another red head.

Things we need to discuss:

I wasn’t completely sure where Josh’s storyline was headed this season, but it seems like it’s going to be an ongoing fight between him and his wolf.  I was disappointed that the writers decided to go in the direction of Josh cheating on Nora, albeit it being his wolf who cheated– not him.  This will surely cause chaos among him, Nora, and the other wolves for the rest of the season. Hopefully the newlyweds can reconcile and help Josh come to an understanding, instead of a face-off, with his own wolf.

It was heartbreaking to watch Sally as she traveled through 2009, seeing all the missed signs when it came to Danny.  I was team Robbie after the flashbacks, so his subsequent death was a punch in the gut.  As much as I want Sally to try and save him, we all know magic comes with a price.

Aidan’s nonchalant confession to Josh about Suzanna being his dead wife was one of the best moments of the episode.  How do you tell your best friend that your dead wife from 200 years ago is actually still alive AND a vampire? With shots of whiskey, duh!

I’m so conflicted with my allegiance to an Aidan ‘ship this season.  I’m a big fan of Aidan/Kat, but Aidan/Suzanna was pretty hot.  All I know is I am NOT on the Aidan/Sally train.  Sorry guys, but their relationship works best as a friendship.

That said, it’s only time (probably one episode) before Aidan finds out Suzanna murdered their son.  This will put the newly rekindled relationship to an end pretty quickly.  One of Aidan’s main, recurring stories throughout the entire series has been about his need for a child.  Knowing Suzanna killed Isaac will probably send Aidan over the deep end.

Warning: Dear redheads, please stay away from Aidan Waite. For some reason he really likes nomming on them to the point of death. I REPEAT: STAY AWAY.
