Transformers: Michael Bay May Return For A Spinoff

Since its beginning 10 years ago, “Transformers” has launched a successful brand and franchise on the big screen. Though critical reception of each new entry in the franchise has dropped, it remains a box office hit with the last two films reaching $1 billion worldwide. “Transformers: The Last Knight” is only a few months away and it will be interesting to see how the studio expands the history of the “Transformers” by bringing in a Nazi and King Arthur backstory. It’s a new venture for the film’s mythology, and it has already got fans excited.

“Transformers: The Last Knight” is only the beginning of multiple Transformers spin-off films. It zeroes in on Bumblebee and is currently going through development in the writer’s room according to Sreenrant. There has also been a mention that a Transformers 6 and 7 are in the works. According to an article by Screenrant, “Paramount has many more ideas in the works, and one that Michael Bay is personally interested in directing.”

Transformers Slated for 14 More Sequel Ideas

In an interview with MTV, Bay was asked about the future of the franchise after his reportedly last film entry for the series. Apparently for Bay, one of the ideas presented to him was of interest for the director. “There are 14 stories written and there’s good stuff. I would like to do one of them though… A Transformers spinoff.” Bay said.

The filmmaker has previously stated that “The Last Knight” would be his last, but it’s no surprise for us to see him go back and do one more sequel. The film is currently in the middle of post-production, and Bay’s interest must have stemmed from it. The possibility for him to move on to a smaller scale of the franchise seems to be a very intriguing project indeed.

But with Paramount revealing the 14 ideas that they have floating around for “Transformers,” this may come as a surprise for many fans. We definitely haven’t seen the last of the movies in the franchise; with a Bumblebee movie coming soon, it’s only a matter of time before the franchise expands and allows writers and directors to explore deep within the series’ mythos.
