The Order of the Witwiccans Explained in Transformers: The Last Knight

“Transformers: The Last Knight,” the fifth installment of the franchise, has been making noise since it premiered yesterday. We claim it; it is a film of bombastic blast of fun and confusion. Yes, it is fun in the sense that its technical brilliance cannot be understated.  However, it seemed confusing. While it remained incredible to see, the problem lies on the meandered several different plots. Don’t get us wrong, but we’re sure you noticed several elements all mixed into a storyline. Worry no more; we’re here to tell you about the Order of the Witwiccans. That single plot twist that leads to a whole lot of why’s and how’s.

A brief ‘Transformers’ recap

According to Revenge of the Fallen, the Cybertronian Transformers had been secretly acting on Earth for many years before. On the other hand, Age of Extinction revealed that the Transformers’ creators wiped out the Earth during the pre-human era. This is in pursuit to farm the mineral Transformium. This time, “The Last Knight” speaks up: that is not the case. And here we are now lost in the truth of the Transformers’ past.

What Is The Order of the Witwiccans?

In the film that begins with a major throwback, it all started during the reign of King Arthur. During this time a magician named Merlin existed. Merlin was responsible for discovering the hidden crashed ship of some ancient Autobot Knights. He talked them into fighting alongside Arthur to turn the tide of a war and establish Camelot. In return, these Knights left Merlin a sort of “magical” staff. And to our surprise, it is a relic of Cybertron which they fled to keep out from Quintessa, the Transformers’ evil creator.

Anthony Hopkins’ character revealed that the staff still exists up to this day. However, it can only be wielded by one of Merlin’s descendants whose line has been protected for centuries now. These so-called “protectors” are an ancient order of “in-the-know” individuals. And the name of this secret society: The Order of the Witwiccans.

That explains why there emerged a so-called “The Order of the Witwiccans.” Now you understand their importance; they’re part of a great history that reveals so much about the Transformers. But wait, Witwiccans? Yes, seemingly a callback to Sam’s last name, which is ‘Witwicky.’

Sure enough, during the montages about the history of the Order of the Witwiccan’s, keen viewers can catch a very brief Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky. Does this mean the Witwicky family name descends from the same place as the Witwiccan Order? Who knows. Now, gone are the days when we believed the family’s involvement in the Transformers activities on Earth is by accident. That might just not be the case.

Should Sam make a comeback to the franchise? Let’s soon find out. The Last Knight’s “to be continued” ending confirms that the final chapter is yet to be written.
