It has yet to be confirmed but Deadline reports that there’s a buzz going around about Paramount and SkyDance Media flying Top Gun: Maverick to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. There have been claims that cast members have secretly been booking hotel rooms and buying tickets for Comic-Con. The last time Paramount and SkyDance attended SDCC was in 2016 for Star Trek: Beyond. Paramount in its bid to have a regular appearance at SDCC was at last year’s event promoting 2018’s Bumblebee.
Top Gun: Maverick At Comic-Con
The main question on everyone’s lips is “Will Tom Cruise show up?” While it may be possible to see other cast members at Comic-Con, the real treat will without a doubt be Crusie, the franchise’s star. But like the rest of his castmates, he hasn’t been confirmed to show up, although it hasn’t been denied either. However, knowing Cruise, fans will be hoping he makes a surprise appearance as always. The last time Cruise did this was during last year’s CinemaCon for Mission Impossible: Fallout.
In Europe though, audiences were given a treat during CineEurope 2019. Fans were welcomed back to the danger zone when Paramount debuted the very first footage from Top Gun: Maverick.
There is a reason to be hopeful, however, as Top Gun: Maverick was actually shot in San Diego last year. So San Diego will mean a lot to the cast and crew involved with the shoot and that gives them an additional incentive to perhaps make an appearance.
Plot of Top Gun: Maverick
The plot of the movie is unknown at this time but in an interview with Collider, cast member Jon Hamm teased a bit saying, “they’re using some technology on this that is never before seen. We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.”
Cast And Crew of Top Gun: Maverick
The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski who also helmed Tron, Oblivion, and 2018’s sleeper hit, Only The Brave. He is assisted by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Edward Miller, and Zack Stentz who will work on the screenplay. Producers include Cruise himself, Jerry Bruckheimer, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, EPs Tommy Harper, and Mike Stenson among others.
The cast will see Cruise reprise his role as the lead character, Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Supporting cast members feature Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Glen Powell.
Top Gun: Maverick was originally set to be released on July 12, 2019, but was pushed back a year. The movie will now hit theaters on June 26, 2020.
