Before Avatar or Avengers: Endgame, Titanic was sitting pretty as the highest-grossing film of all time, but what’s interesting though, is that one movie that came out this year has actually beaten Titanic’s box office returns.
As per Collider, Top Gun: Maverick has official dethroned Titanic as the highest-earning Paramount movie of all time, passing the 1 billion mark (Titanic grossed $600.7 million on its initial run). President of Paramount Pictures Brian Robins had this to say about the record:
“For 110 years, Paramount Pictures has produced and distributed some of the most iconic films in Hollywood history, including the all-time classic Titanic, which marks its 25th anniversary this year… Top Gun: Maverick is a phenomenal motion picture, and we take deep pride in celebrating this tremendous achievement alongside Tom Cruise, our filmmakers and cast, our marketing and distribution teams, and, of course, all the new and original Top Gun fans, without whom this wouldn’t have been possible.”
For now, Top Gun has still managed to bring in strong numbers, despite having to compete with Marvel films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. I guess one nude Chris Hemsworth will still have to compete with Maverick’s beach football beefcake fest.
If anything, Maverick still proves to be a solid blockbuster with some great visuals that have actually been done practically. We don’t know what the future of the franchise is, but it definitely leaves the door open for more of Miles Teller’s Rooster as well as Tom Cruise’s Maverick.
Top Gun: Maverick is still flying high in theaters.
