With production for Top Gun: Maverick in the horizon, the cast list continues to grow. Three exciting additions were announced today, and the hype couldn’t get more exciting. The anticipated follow-up to the 1986 classic film, it stars Tom Cruise back as Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, Val Kilmer reprising his role as Lt. Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazans, Jennifer Conelly, Glen Powell, and Miles Teller.
Deadline reports that Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Baby Driver), Ed Harris (The Truman Show, Pollock, Westworld), and Lewis Pullman (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Bad Times at the El Royale) officially joins the Top Gun: Maverick team in unspecified roles.
Top Gun: Maverick picks up years after the first film, with Maverick now a flight instructor in charge of training a new breed of military pilots. Teller plays the son of Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick’s former partner who died in a plane-related accident in the first movie, and will be trained under Maverick’s wing. Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is attached to helm the film; with a script penned by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, and Eric Warren Singer.
Hamm, Harris, and Pullman also complete the previously announced supporting cast made up of Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, and Monica Barbaro.
With Cruise hot on the heels of Mission: Impossible – Fallout‘s success, Top Gun 2 looks like a promising film that could potentially revive the classic film’s following.
