Tom Holland Confirms A Spider-Man Trilogy In The MCU

Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” debut in “Captain America: Civil War” was clearly just the start of his rise as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best superheroes. “Civil War” was just the beginning of Holland’s time as the web-slinger. Now, he has just confirmed that there are already plans for a “Spider-Man” trilogy.

Ever since Holland landed on the role, it’s been made clear that the web-slinger will definitely have a major role in the upcoming films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” comes out next month, and this will solidify Spidey’s larger role for the franchise. It also marks the second film in Holland’s six-picture deal with Marvel. The other films in the MCU where he’ll be appearing are “Avengers: Infinity War” and a currently untitled “Avengers” film.

Spider-Man’s Future Is Looking Bright

“Homecoming’s” sequel has been pre-scheduled by Marvel for a 2019 release. However, Holland’s future as “Spider-Man” became uncertain as it seemed to be that the sequel would be his last outing, according to Producer Amy Pascal. But with Holland’s confirmation of a trilogy, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Speaking to AlloCine during a Facebook Live session, the outlet asked Holland about his future in the MCU. He responded by giving a few details about Peter Parker’s larger story after “Homecoming.” He then ‘accidentally’ confirmed the two additional Spidey films. Here is what Holland had to say:

“There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies… Yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3.”

Which Timeline Does Spider-Man Fit After Homecoming?

Planning out franchise movies this early may not always be the best case, especially for the MCU. But with Spider-Man both a partnership project between Sony and Marvel, it makes sense for both studios to go head-on with the character. With the sequel to”Homecoming” hitting just two years after the first, the third film could be brought in as soon as 2021, if the same timeline will be used for the trilogy.

But if the studio would want to give a break for Holland before filming the coming films in the Spidey trilogy, then it might come at a later year. This also doesn’t mean that we will be seeing Holland as Spider-Man for the last time after the supposed trilogies. Holland has previously expressed his desire to play the role for a long time. Both studios also seem to agree with Holland. Seeing him grow up and be an adult “Spider-Man” in the future would certainly be an unprecedented feat in the MCU.

It’s good to know that while both studios are planning on how Spidey’s future will turn out, it’s definitely exciting to know that we will be seeing Tom Holland as “Spider-Man” for quite a while.
