Only Lord of the Rings book readers will know about Tom Bombadil, and while he was absent in the movies, a rumor is going around that he’ll be showing up in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
This comes from TheOneRing.net that reports that Bombadil has been cast in the show and will be appearing in the second season of ROP. Here’s the reveal as per the source Green Dragon Gossip from TORn Tuesday:
Quickbeam: Tom? Hmmm. Do you think that’s a possible Tom Bombadil coming to visit the show?
Staffer Justin: It’s 100 percent Tom Bombadil. That’s what they’re [the source] saying. Tom Bombadil has been cast and will show up in Season Two.
The character of Bombadil appears early in Fellowship of the Ring with Frodo and friends running into him on their way to the Bree. Bombadil is a supernatural being himself, and is pretty whimsical; but the oddest thing about him is that he’s not affected by the One Ring.
Reading the book and watching the film, you’ll realize that Bombadil was kind of a by-product of when Tolkien was still figuring out the pace of the book, and he was clearly a side story that had nothing to do with the overall conflict.
With the upcoming series though, there is definitely a lot of room for him to show up; maybe add a little mischief to the journey of a young wizard and his harfoot companion?
No release date has been announced for the second season of The Rings of Power, but you can catch the complete Season One now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
