‘Titans’ Season Finale ‘Dick Grayson’ Recap: Batman v Robin

A plunge into desperation brings the Titans in a tight position. After remembering a forgotten mission, the team’s eldest members head back to the Roth Family Home. As one’s life hangs on by a thread, one makes a decision that saves a life but dooms many others.

In the season finale of Titans, Trigon (Seamus Dever) brings Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) in an alternate reality. There, Dick experiences a happy life complete with all of his desires. However, Batman’s (Maxim Savaria/Alan Moussi) demise makes Dick return to Gotham and face his once mentor.

Married Life

Perhaps after the events of the previous episode, Dick and the other Titans live healthy lives. Here, Dick lives with his pregnant wife, Dawn Granger-Grayson (Minka Kelly) as well as their son, Johnny Grayson (James Scallion). Also, Rachel Roth (Teagan Croft) and Gar Logan (Ryan Potter) go to the same university. The Graysons’ lives run quite good until one day, the now crippled Jason Todd (Curran Walters) arrives in his house, asking for his help.

Since Dick’s departure from Gotham, the city went on a downward spiral. Crime rates reached an all-time high, and so did the death rate. In this reality, anyone who got out of Gotham would never dare go back. Every part of town is a bad part of town. Also, numerous important people disappeared in Gotham. Alfred Pennyworth is dead. Barbara Gordon is missing, Commissioner Gordon is even gone, and The Joker is on a rampage. Because of this, Batman reaches his tipping point, threateningly breaking his Code of Justice.

Homecoming

Dick’s return to Gotham brings him to the heart of the chaos. After overhearing a police radio referring to a Batman situation, Dick heads to the crime scene. There, he found The Joker lying on top of a wrecked car; likely thrown off a building. Trigon, disguised as Captain Frank Finney, meets him there and tries to convince Dick to stay and help with the investigation, but Dick wished to leave. However, Joker was still alive, so Dick’s mission is far from over.

After heading to the Wayne Manor to try to talk some sense into Bruce, Dick visits The Joker in the hospital. There, he meets the now FBI Agent Kory Anders (Anna Diop). The Bureau took an interest in Gotham due to the nature of the crimes there. Moments later, Batman arrives in the hospital, killing THe Joker.

Batman’s Rage

Batman does not stop at killing Joker alone. Moments after killing Joker, Batman heads to Arkham Asylum. There, he goes on a killing spree; murdering both inmates and staff. As soon as Agent Anders calls Dick to the scene, Dick heads there immediately. All of Batman’s notable adversaries imprisoned in the Asylum were dead. Two-Face, The Riddler, and The Ventriloquist lay on the floors of their separate cells. It was too late to save Batman. It is time to stop him.

Wayne Manor Raid

The GCPD is no match for Batman’s superior intellect, tactics, and combat skills. Despite Dick’s help in leading the operation to extract Batman, the GCPD fail to capture Bruce. All of the men that stormed the Manor lost their lives in this attempted capture. However, Agent Ander’s death at the hands of Batman ultimately caused Dick to have the explosive charges set inside the manor triggered. Inside the Batcave, Dick confronted Bruce one last time before giving in to the darkness, killing Bruce. With that, reality returns with Dick as a new member of Trigon’s Family.

‘Titans’ Season Finale ‘Dick Grayson’ Final Verdict

Initially set to contain 12 episodes, Titans’ first season ended with this one instead. The showrunners perhaps decided that it was too early to kill off an antagonist like Trigon. However, this episode still feels like an opening to a season finale. Nonetheless, the well-written plot with the actors precisely executing their roles made this chapter a good one. Their stories do not end at this point, making the expectations for the second season quite high.
