It’s a new dawn of superheroes. Batman is somewhat retired, and the members of the Titans are taking the helm—at least, that’s what the latest trailer for DC Universe’s flagship show seem to tease.
Season 1 ended with the threat of the demon Trigon looming over the Titans. Dick Grayson’s (Brenton Thwaites) reality was drastically altered, leaving him hallucinating about going toe to toe with Batman. Season 2 seems to show that the group will come out of the ordeal with even stronger numbers as a slew of newcomers board the show. For one, Game of Thrones alum Iain Glen will play an older, post-Batman Bruce Wayne. Superboy (Joshua Orpin) and Aqualad (Drew Van Acker) also make their debut in the series.
The new trailer for Titans also provides a better look at this season’s main villain, Esai Morales’ Deathstroke. He’s as ruthless as the comics show, with two of his offspring joining the fore as well. Chella Man and Chelsea Zang play Jericho and Rose Wilson respectively, with the latter teased to become a part of Dick’s superhero team despite her paternal origins.
A new threat is also teased, driving a wedge between some of the heroes themselves. But one of the more interesting cryptic details dropped in the new trailer is Dick’s future as a superhero. Following Bruce’s inactivity as Batman, someone has to step into his shoes. Minka Kelly’s Dove then reveals an exciting clue to where Dick’s character is going towards the end of the trailer. As they face problem after problem, Dove tells Dick that he has to “become Batman.”
This might be a red herring, though, since we know that the Justice League still exists and that there’s no way Bruce deems him worthy of donning the cowl (at least not yet). However, Dove’s plea could allude to Dick’s probable path—becoming Nightwing.
Titans Season 2 stars Thwaites as Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth/Raven, Anna Diop as Koriand’r/Starfire, Ryan Potter as gar Logan/Beast Boy, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove, Curran Walters as Jason Todd/Robin, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy/Wonder Girl, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zang as Ravager/Rose Wilson, Chella Man as Jericho, Esai Morales as Deathstroke, and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.
Titans Season 2 premieres Friday, September 6th on the DC Universe. Watch the trailer above.
