Taika Waititi is still fresh off of his Oscar win for Jojo Rabbit this Sunday, but his work on Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder continues. A new major crew member has been added to Waititi’s team with Someone Great director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson joining the team to write the script for the Thor: Ragnarok sequel.

The movie marks Waititi’s second Thor movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Thor: Ragnarok and features Natalie Portman as Jane Foster—with a massive twist. It was revealed during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that Portman is indeed returning, but this time as Lady Thor. Ford V Ferrari‘s Christian Bale is also in talks to join Thor: Love and Thunder in an undisclosed role, with many speculating Beta Ray Bill. Tessa Thompson will also reprise her role as Valkyrie, now the reigning King of New Asgard after Thor left to scour the cosmos with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Endgame. Other than that, plot details for the upcoming film remain under wraps.
Thor: Love and Thunder is gearing up for production later this year, and Robinson’s addition comes hot off the heels of her Netflix directorial debut.
And since the new Thor movie will focus on a female lead opposite Chris Hemsworth’s titular character, it makes sense for Robinson’s addition given how Waititi would like to have a woman’s perspective on the character. Robinson’s Someone Great hit Netflix last summer and starred Gina Rodriguez, Brittany Snow, and DeWanda Wise. It followed the story of Rodriguez’s Jenny, who goes through a devastating breakup and copes by going on an adventure with her two best friends, Blair (Snow) and Erin (Wise).
Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on November 5, 2021.
