5 Things To Know About Jack Pearson, Updates on 'This is Us' Season 2 Episode 2

As far as the NBC drama series “This Is Us” goes, we still have little idea on how one of the central characters, Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) dies in the narrative. And as we dive deeper into his life story, we are introduced to one of the greatest fathers of TV History. But that’s not all who he is! So here’s a list of 5 things you should know about Jack Pearson; and an update on the latest “This Is Us” episode for Season 2.

5 Things to Know about Jack Pearson

1. He is Kate’s Biggest Hero. Now, this doesn’t mean that the other two of the Big Three don’t look up to their father the same way Kate (Chrissy Metz) does. But there’s a level of favoritism that Kate has for Jack that is easy to catch even on the first season.
For instance, when the couple’s most grueling fight happens, Kate is first to look for her father’s absence. She has also openly portrayed her dislike for her mother—even as she reaches adulthood. But this is explained when Kate opens up to her live-in partner, Toby (Chris Sullivan). She tells him that she simply ‘cannot contain her emotions’ when she’s with her mother. And this is again glimpsed in the latest episode of ‘This Is Us’ Season 2 after Kate finishes her first gig.
Thankfully, Toby was there to level things down and reminds us how he is simply smitten by his girlfriend. In the episode, he reminds Rebecca (Mandy Moore) that he is strictly and indefinitely ‘Team Kate Forevah.’

2. Jack Pushed Rebecca to Adopt Randall. On the day the couple loses their third child, Rebecca is exhausted and deeply heartbroken. But because of Jack being Jack, he strolls her over to where Randall is and tells her how he feels about that baby belonging to their family. This revelation is shared by Rebecca when Randall visits his mother and tells her about his wife Beth’s doubts on their adoption.
3. Jack Pearson is a mechanic at heart. In the first season of “This Is Us” we explore the sweetness of Rebecca and Jack’s love story. From the blind dates to Rebecca’s singing gigs– we established a history of them. And in Jack’s past, we find him helping out Miss Peabody with an old car. He then tells her that he’s looking for a few jobs that do a little carpentry, dry walling, anything under the sun. It just goes to show that he isn’t one to just lay around– but he’s headstrong, industrious and helpful.

4. He has a drinking problem. This wasn’t an easy secret to tell for Jack, as we see him struggle in opening up to his kids– he even breaks down when he tells his daughter Kate. It seems this is an uncontrollable, instinctive but unwanted addiction that he himself wanted and tried to get rid off, but simply could not.
On the latest episode of “This Is Us,” we see him undergo this addiction—and it isn’t pretty. In fact, it’s heart-wrenching. That mere 40 minutes of the show has been regarded as one of the most ‘devastating.’ And for a ‘This Is Us’ episode, that means towels over Kleenex.
5. One of the Best dads in TV history. I’m sure a lot of fans would testify to this. Rebecca was right about Jack Pearson: ‘he was that close to being perfect.’ And truly, he is. From looking like a ruggedly handsome husband to playing the role of a respectful, loving and kind dad, he gets the title the for that. No arguments needed.
There are the cuddle sessions with the kids at home or by the pool. And then there are moments where he teaches Randall to ‘breathe’ and acts the role of a dedicated, unashamed father in Randall’s martial arts class. And of course, let’s not forget that he always kept his camera close to remember every moment of his family’s happiness. Jack Pearson, why did you have to go?
It’s only been the second episode of “This Is Us” Season 2 and everyone’s got swollen eyes for it. Look out for Episode 3 next week on NBC!
