Third 'Walking Dead' Spin-off in the Works at AMC

Just when you thought that the world has had enough of the dead, it looks like Walking Dead fans are in for more than the weekly zombie fix. With the ongoing 10-year expansion of the Walking Dead universe comes another spinoff in the works at AMC.

Back in 2015, AMC launched Fear the Walking Dead—along with a slew of mini-serials released online—a hit companion show to the main universe’s storyline. It has since evolved into a distinct show on its own, creating a fresh feel for the zombie apocalypse while Morgan (Lennie James) and Dwight (Austin Amelio) cross over from The Walking Dead.

Late last year, Andrew Lincoln made his final appearance as Rick Grimes in the fifth episode of season nine. But it was obvious from the get-go that the creatives behind The Walking Dead still want more of Rick, so it was then revealed that he would go on to star in a trilogy of movies, presumably focusing on his time after Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) saved him.

That said, more Walking Dead content is set to overwhelm our Walker hunger. during AMC’s quarterly earnings call with Wall Street analysts (via Deadline), COO Ed Carroll elaborated on the network’s plans to come up with a third zombie show, saying that it’s in “active development.”

“We’re not at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere,” Carroll said. “But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series. We’re not in a position to talk about partnerships in terms of other territories or ancillary windows, other than that there’s a healthy appetite for it, and we’ve had a number of conversations with a lot of players in the space.”

Despite suffering an all-time series low during The Walking Dead’s ninth season, it remains the number one show on cable and second drama program next to NBC’s This Is Us. And with the “temporary departure” of Lauren Cohan and Danai Gurira’s apparent exit, it makes sense for the show to bank on tits remaining characters to explore the other aspects of the zombie apocalypse that’s never been shown in the series yet.

We’re five episodes away from The Walking Dead Season 9 finale, but it already feels like we’re still in action with more spinoffs and movies to look forward to soon.
