It looks like the community of Alexandria will eventually lose some of its people once “The Walking Dead” Season 8 comes back on, according to Steven Ogg, who plays Simon on the show. Ogg says that it’s high time to “thin the herd.”
Back in “The Walking Dead” Season 6, Rick Grimes (Abraham Lincoln) was able to lead his group to the friendly community of Alexandria. Since then, his group began to grow, in addition to the occupants of the community. Season 7 has also established a couple of new characters with very important roles in the series. Among them are Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Gregory (Xander Berkeley), and Jesus (Tom Payne). Negan’s “Saviors” crew also features Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Simon (Ogg).
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ogg talks about his recent promotion as series regular for “The Walking Dead” Season 8. He also went on to say that the show will soon “thin the herd.” But of course, the actor didn’t specify which among the characters would have an unfortunate death. And when asked to describe the upcoming season, Ogg says, “Yeah, let’s thin the herd, man, let’s thin the herd.”
‘Thinning the Herd’ for ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 Will Hit Hard for Actors
However, Ogg also says that losing cast members on would be really hard for him and his co-actors. “Everyone is so welcoming and so wonderful,” Ogg said. “They’re all ridiculously close off the set that they just make you feel completely welcome and it was such a safe environment that you immediately feel like, all right, you’re excited. Let’s get down to it, like ‘What do we get to play today?'”
“They make it feel, and this extends throughout, really, everyone — production, and cast — there’s no feeling like you’re lesser than. Andrew [Lincoln] is number one on the call sheet, and he is number one and he sets the tone, and it just bleeds over to everyone, that everyone is just so great and there are no ‘you’re just this person,’ or ‘you’re number 300 on the call sheet.’ It doesn’t matter. Everyone is in this together, and you feel it. You feel the team, you feel the love, you feel the support and the trust, and I think it’s what really makes it special. I think it reflects on the show, too.”
Considering the people lost in season 7, it’s surely a question of who would die next. However, it’s also possible that “thinning the herd” might also mean killing off some characters on Negan’s team. But whatever the case may be, the “All Out War” storyline for season 8 would definitely include more losses on both sides, as Rick and his group fight the Saviors in multiple episodes of the new season.
“The Walking Dead” Season 8 premieres Sunday, October 22 on AMC.
