The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Episode 9 Recap – 743

Klaus and Diego argue who should risk their life in order to save Vanya. Klaus didn’t want to go because he knew that he wouldn’t survive. Diego tries to force Klaus to save Vanya but Allison decided to just go. Allison tried to save Vanya but her powers were too powerful for her and she fainted. Diego knew he was the only one left to save Vanya. Klaus motivated Diego by telling him that he looks like Antonio Banderas. Diego uses his knives to slowly make his way towards the room. Diego makes it half way across the hallway but he couldn’t hold on any longer. He loosens the nearby fire hose in order to help Klaus and left things up to him.

Klaus musters all of his strength to save Vanya. He stood up and used the fire hose as a rope to pull himself towards the room Vanya’s in. He makes it all the way to the end of the fire hose and launches himself towards the door. Klaus opens the door but the huge burst of energy from inside the room sent him flying back towards Allison. In the end, Ben took over to save Vanya. Meanwhile, Luther is having trouble with both Five’s. The old Five wants to kill the young Five but the young Five knows that his older version is planning to kill him. He also knows about his plan to just jump with Luther to 2019 and save the world there.

Young Five tells Luther that in reality he’s 14 days older that his old self which means he should be listening to him. The argument stops as they reached Five’s vantage point for JFK’s assassination. Luther only has minutes to think who he’s going to side with and things won’t be easy for him moving forward. Meanwhile, The Handler knows that Diego got away and wants Lila to take care of loose ends. Lila thinks that The Handler only allowed Diego in the Commission so that she would end up killing him. The Handler tells Lila that everything in life is a test but she’s not sure why Lila is failing this specific task.

The Handler is about to take over the Commission and she needs to know that Lila is trustworthy. She wants Lila to be obedient and obey her every command. Lila didn’t want to but she didn’t have a choice. She needs to find Diego and kill him. While Lila and The Handler were talking, AJ manages to sneak a message off to Herb. He told Herb to find case file 743. Herb opens the file and takes one page from it. Meanwhile, Ben is able to enter Vanya’s room because her powers don’t affect him.  Ben possessed Vanya’s body in order to calm her down. Sissy enters Harlan’s room and found him in the same state Vanya’s in. Sissy didn’t know what to do but Harlan suddenly spoke and called out Vanya’s name.

Carl took the opportunity to take Harlan away from Sissy and take him to a mental institute. Sissy went to get her rifle to stop Carl from taking Harlan away. Carl isn’t afraid of Sissy however she’s had enough of how poorly he’s been treating her. Sissy cocks her rifle in an attempt to scare Carl into submission. Meanwhile, Lila finds Herb and makes him confess regarding Diego’s whereabouts. Herb tells Lila that he helped Diego escape so that he could help his family. Lila tells Herb that she’s not going to kill Diego because she loves him. Herb tells Lila that he needs to show her something and pulls out the file from case 743.

Lila reads the piece of paper and found out something horrible that made her cry. Back in 1963, old Five is preparing his sniper rifle to take out JFK. Young Five sees that the briefcase is open for the taking and he took his chance. Old Five sees his younger self making a move so he teleports behind him and tries to kill him. Luther took the sniper rifle and told them to act civilized and be a family for a few more minutes. Young and old Five didn’t care about being family. They were now in the last stage of paradox psychosis which is homicidal rage. Young Five kicks Luther’s groin to disable him. The two proceed to try and kill each other before JFK and his parade pass by.

Ben enters the deepest part of Vanya’s subconscious. He saw the white violin on the dining table at the academy. Ben takes a look inside and found Vanya lying down on the floor. Ben went inside the violin to speak with Vanya. Vanya remembers everything that happened in the previous timeline and she knew that she’s doing things all over again. Ben tells Vanya that it’s not too late to stop herself. She just needs to go back to the right timeline and fix things with her family. Vanya no longer wants to live after regaining her memory. She knew that she killed Pogo and that she almost killed Allison. On top of all that, she destroyed the world in 2019 and she doesn’t want a repeat of that event.

Ben assures Vanya that she’s not a monster and that things are different this time. Her siblings were risking their life to save her instead of destroy her. Ben blames Reginald for seeing her as a bomb before she ever became one. Reginald was too afraid of Vanya’s powers and the risks that they pose that he never allowed her the chance to control her powers. Ben knew that things would be different and that she would be able to control her powers once they fix everything in the 60’s. After talking with Vanya, it seems Ben is finally dying.

Vanya thought that she’s hurting Ben but he responds that he already died 17 years ago. All of the years he spent with Klaus were just a bonus for him. He knew that it was time to leave and he was happy that he was able to say goodbye. Vanya hugs Ben as he disappears into the air. He tells Vanya to relay a message for Klaus before he truly disappears. After Ben leaves, Vanya regains consciousness and so does Harlan. Carl and Sissy were still in a standoff for Harlan. Carl gets out of his car to confront Sissy but Harlan got out as well. He approaches Sissy which makes her lower the rifle. Carl takes the opportunity to take the rifle from Sissy but accidentally fires off a round at Harlan.

The bullet was supposed to pierce right through Harlan’s heart but somehow Vanya’s power deflects the bullet back to Carl, instantly killing him. Meanwhile, Lila went to confront The Handler about her family’s death. She found out that Five killed her family and that AJ ordered the execution. She didn’t know that it was The Handler that ordered the execution and not AJ. The Handler manages to turn things around and use Lila’s despair against Five. She tells Lila that Five and Diego were probably looking for the evidence and trying to dispose of it. Lila knew that Diego wasn’t bright enough to execute such an elaborate plan on his own. She sees the lies that the Handler is feeding her and she knew that she needs to kill Five.

Lila leaves in order to hunt down Five while The Handler finally kills AJ by swallowing him full. Meanwhile, Luther manages to take control of the situation and sides with the younger Five. Five opens the portal back to 2019 and they were preparing to leave. Vanya came to her senses and sees the aftermath of her powers. She killed the FBI agents and found her siblings slump on the hallway. They weren’t dead as they manage to get back up as Vanya approaches them. Diego knew that they changed the timeline and that JFK was still about to get assassinated. He ran as fast as she could while Five and Luther haggle things over with the old Five. He still wants his briefcase despite getting the right formula from the young Five.

Luther kicks the old Five to the portal and sends his ass to 2019 but they damage the suitcase in the process. They don’t have any other choice but to watch JFK get shot. They looked over the grassy knoll and saw Reginald standing on the grass waiting for JFK to pass by. Diego ran from the FBI building to stop Reginald but it was just a decoy. The Majestic Twelve killed JFK despite making a deal with Reginald. Reginald visits the Majestic Twelve that night to tell them that their partnership ends with JFK’s death. The Majestic Twelve promised Reginald that they won’t kill JFK however they did it anyway.

The Majestic Twelve think that they could get their way with Reginald but they were greatly mistaken. Reginald took of his mask to reveal that he’s an alien. He proceeds to kill the Majestic Twelve inside the Tiki Lounge. Meanwhile, the man from the switchboard calls The Handler to the room. Several anomalies were appearing all across the timeline because of certain changes to different events. The Handler kills the man in order to hide the anomalies from everyone. She recalls all field agents and is determined to go to war with the academy.

One of the anomalies shown on the switchboard screen is happening at Sissy’s farm. It seems that Harlan got Vanya’s powers and there something brewing at their barn.
